Hey guys looking for some load advice. Im shooting a savage 110fcp 338lm. Up until now ive been shooting the 300 bergers. They shot decent for me but I just couldnt get the velocities I want/need to make them worth while.

I stumbled across some reloader 33 powder and a few hundred hornady 285gr bthp bullets. Im wondering if anybody is shooting this combo and what a good starting point for powder charge would be. Also what are you running for seating depth? What kind of velocities are you getting?

Im fairly new to the elr game. Have been able to shoot to 1200 the last to years and cleared a bunch of trees last fall and have out to 2000 to try this year. Last question. Is the factory stated bc of .720 close enough to use in my ballistic app to get me close at 2000 from my 200yd zero. Yeah I know 200yd zero on a 338 isnt really practical but I have a 200yd range close to home where I test my ammo.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

The 285s are working really well for a lot of people; some would say it's the perfect mass bullet for a .338LM (they have an A-MAX version out now as well). They wouldn't group well at all in my rifle, so I've been using 250s and 300s, but that's just me. Now, RL33 is a pretty amazing powder and can really fill a case long before you see pressure signs. For that reason it's particularly well suited to 300s and I would suspect that the delay in the pressure curve wouldn't give you much of an advantage with 285s as say N570 or Retumbo (or H1000 for that matter). Still, I say give them a try and just be aware that you will probably be able to load them hotter than you'd think.

I run rl 33, and 285s in my trg42. powder is dirty but very consistent. Can punch one ragged hole all day. I have not shot over a mile however, but it works great at that distance. I zeroed at 100 and works fine.

Thats what I wanted to hear. Sako man have you chronographed at all? Also since there is no data for this combo can you suggest a good starting point I can work up from?
