new to hide & new to reloading. was wondering if anyone has suggestions for types of smokeless powder for 300 win mag. i bought a couple pounds of IMR 4350, just to get started.

With that said...
H4350 was my primiary powder.
H1000, H4831 are also good temp stable powder choices
RL-22 is another good one with 190gr and heavier bullets, it will get you higher velocities, but I don't like the temp sensitivity of the Reloader powders.

You will want to choose a bullet or two first, then the powder for that bullet.
Win mags can push everything from varmint to 240s.

Look in the "Reloading Depot" under the reloading page. As for the IMR 4350, I use it for my 180's in my elk rig.

Thx 4 the info. i did buy 190gr SMK's & using winchester brass & wichester large magnum primers. i only bought 2 llbs of IMR 4350, so i can change if i need 2. will try reloading section too. thanks again.

H-1000 topped with 208 Amax.
If I remember right, I am using 77 grains and load it as long as my mag will take. It is right at max per hodgdon, I have no idea about velocity. Shoots dang good though.

thank you all. at least i have a good idea of other loads to work. waiting for my build. i will try some of the suggestions you gave me. maybe, all of them if i can't find one that my rifle likes. thanks again.

I personally hate H1000. I run H4831sc and R22 with outstanding results

I run Retumbo in both of my 300 WM. Bullet of choice is the 225gr Hornady Match.

I use H4831 for 208 Amax and 210 VLD. 69.0gr is giving me 2880fps out of a 26" bbl. Haven't finished work-up though.
