What is the trick to seating the bullet without rolling the plating? Do I need to crimp in a separate step? I have tried to bell the case and chamfer the case but it doesnt seem to help. My crimp measure .470-.471 so I don't think I'm over crimping.

Re: Loading plated bullets

I'm guessing a .45 caliber, but not important. If you are crimping and seating in the same step you will tear the plating and slide it up the bullet. A seperate crimp should fix it. Over crimping in a second step can also tear the plating.

Re: Loading plated bullets

I have to screw down my lee powder through expanding die another half to 3/4 a turn when loading plated bullets. It bells the mouth enough that it slides right in.

Thanks guys, that's what I figured after fucking up a few bullets trying different setups but wanted to make sure before I ordered more dies.

Re: Loading plated bullets

I found some Forster lock rings in stock with my dies that I needed so I don't have to fight junk ass lock rings anymore.
