I will be loading 260 Remington in about a month and decided that I would look to you guys for some suggested loads. I am a pretty experienced reloader with .223 and .308 so I know enough to back off a bit at the start. Give me your best shot. I will be shooting a Broughton 1:8 twist 28" barrel.

Thanks

Re: Loads for 260 Remington

I'm using Rem brass 140g AMAX bullets H4350 powder and Fioccie primers It took a while but I have 1/2 groups at 200 yards. I did all the load work up with CCI BR2 primers but the groups would not shrink so I switched primers and got what I wanted. I'm shooting max load 44.5g so please don't start there.

I have H414 as well that I have use for 140g Berger Bullets with CCI 400 primers had one hole group at 756 yards 7 shots.

I'm shooting a 26 3/4 Brux 1-8 light target taper. I have not hit the chrono yet.

Re: Loads for 260 Remington

If it helps

all the NorCal shooters that run 260s, myself, and Terry Cross are all shooting 47.0 grains of H4831SC over either 139 Scenars or 140 AMAXs running around 2820 fps and that load hammers. Work up to that one that though.

Re: Loads for 260 Remington

do any of you have any exp with 260ai as compared with reg 260

the extra cap is not what im looking for but less trimming, fedding from a mag and of course accuracy differences+ or-

im having a barrel made and have a couple of weeks to decide
i shoot some tac as well as fclass
thanks

You will gain about 75 to 100 fps over the 260 Rem. But, you will have to fire form brass, have decreased brass and barrel life, have custom dies, and decrease you reliability in feeding/extracting. I thought about playing with a lesser version of a 260 AI (less shoulder angle and less straight taper), and it will be more trouble than it's worth. And it sucks losing cases at a tactical match that you spent lots of time prepping. But, if you have lots of time to spend prepping the brass and don't mind these negatives, then go for it.

Re: Loads for 260 Remington

Broughton 5C 1:8 twist 26" barrel.
47 Gr of 4831SC
RP Brass, fully prepped...
Lapua 139 Scenar
CCI BR2
MV 2850

Like Deadly said, most guys in NCPPRC shoot the
same load...with pretty good results!

Re: Loads for 260 Remington

Three powders that seem to work great in the 260 would be RL-17,H4350, and H4831SC. The H4831 seem to work better behind the 139s with less pressure signs. The 130s behind RL-17 great results.
I know the H4350 is used a lot but I always ran into showing more pressure signs with this powder than the other 2.

I like the BR2 primers with the 260. I have got good results with these primers and these combinations.

For exact load data. I would go to the reloading section. There is a list of loads for the 260. Pick one and see . Most loads with the 260 will be close to where you need to be. Be safe and work up the load up to VS. starting at the listed load.
