After looking at the DTA 308 magazine, which is essentially a 338 lapua mag with modified feed lips, modified follower, and spacer at the rear, I got to wondering if it's possible to do something similar to an Alpha or AI long action mag so that the 308 cartridge doesn't slide around so much in an M24 clone.
Since the feed lips are a lot shorter on the AI / Alpha mag than on the DTA, it looks like I would need to put about a .4" spacer in the front, and mill down the follower about the same amount.
Has anyone done this? What did you block / space with? Did you have to modifiy the spring?
