is this possible? I saw the latest new m24 in .308. Still long action but has a detachable magazine. Is it possible to set up a long action remington for .308 and set up a DBM setup for the .308 magazines? I saw that Remington had jerry-rigged, per say, their larger magazines to accommodate the .308 round. Curious if it were possible to do right the opposite and set up a system to use the regular .308 AI mags. Not building any bolt guns right now. This is just a idea that came to mind since some of think the Remington short action is a little TOO short.

It's pretty easy to tack a magazine block in the back of a magazine if it's necessary. Remington has been doing it for years with the 223 on their short actions. Dunno why the logic couldn't apply to detachable mags of LA lengths that are used for short action cartridges. As long as the mag well geometery was reliable and the feed rails were as well. No direct experience with the conversion myself. No stay at the Holiday Inn Express either.

Re: Long Action .308 w/ AI magazine set up

Well I know of a couple of options currently for your desired build:
1. AICS M24 complete drop in for Remy M700 L/A action and standard 5rd .308 AI magazine Part #3901 included and optional 10rd magazine Part #3902 available. I believe Mile High Shooting Accessories has them in stock currently.

2. Badger M5 DBM M24 Sniper Rifle Drop In Triggerguard
Just like our Marine issue M5 triggerguard, this unit replaces the floorplate guard to allow the use of detachable magazines. FOR USE WITH MILITARY M24 RIFLE IN 7.62 NATO ONLY! Replaces the current guard in 2 minutes, uses existing guard screws. Made from aircraft grade aluminum and hardcoat anodized black. Weight: 10.3 oz. (guard w/empty 5rd mag)
P/N 306-84. Now this model utilizes the original AE MKI 5rd magazine part #4267, which is available and a great option as well.

Hope this helps.
