Gents, looking to build a long action hunting setup, looking for advice.
What I would like to do is run a 22 creed for varmint / 25 saum for mid size game / 7 PRC for bigger animals.
Using approximate magazines is there any potential issues running short cartridges in long actions?

I agree that a 6.5 creed will do all of those pretty well, depending on bullet choice. But if you're set on spending your life savings on the various required reloading components for those, I'd look into a Desert Tech SRS. It will run all of those with a simple barrel (and potentially magazine and bolt, depending on caliber) swap.

A desert tech is far from a good hunting setup.

I appreciate the comments. I was under the impression that guys do run short magnums in long actions to take advantage of the longer bullets and seat them out further. I was thinking of using th ACE blackjack.
If the 22 creedmoor won’t feed in a long action out of a magazine and I can find another rifle I guess, just wanted to have a Zermatt TL3 to be able to swap bolt heads and have a do all set tip for hunting

I kinda thought the same way. Seems guys run the short mags in long actions all the time. At least that’s what I’v read from guys posting there build specs.

If you go with a TL3, you can get most of what you want with the following:
  • MDT 30-06 LA magazine (metal) to fit insert-magwell-size-here
  • MDT 300WM LA magazine (metal) to fit insert-magwell-size-here
  • MDT 308 SA magazine (Metal) w/o binder plate
  • A block of aluminum/wood/something
  1. Take the guts out of the 30-06 magazine and the 308 magazine
  2. Put the guts of the 308 magazine in the 30-06 magazine as far forwards as possible
  3. Shape the block of material to fill the remaining space in the back of the 30-06 magazine
  4. Voila, 22CM-capable long action magazine. Some feed lip futzing may be required.
You still won’t have the best bolt feel due to the overstroke, but it’s better than feeding issues.

All that said, in your position I’d build 2 rifles: a 7 Sherman Short off a Defiance XM, and a 22 Creedmoor off of whatever you wanted.

FWIW i ran a LA remington 700 for a number of years in .308 and .284 win. I really enjoyed the ability to take full advantage of seating heavy bullets as long as I wanted. Yes bolt manipulation is a bit of a long stroke but for me it wasnt a deal breaker.IIRC i used the factory bdl box mag with hinged floor plate and had no issues with mag feeding. Not sure how a creedmoor sized case would do, but the 308 sized cases worked great. I believe the The M24 was a long action 308 for man years. FWIW.
