There is a new range that is about to open in the Homestead Area. There will be 50,100, and a 500yard range. Steel targets will be provided as well as paper targets. For more information they have a Facebook page called Long Shot Range.

Prices and membership fees are still being decided. They dont know if they are going to allow you to bring your own steel targets yet. The more I find out, I will post here.

Re: Long Shot Range/Homestead FL/500 yards

OK, I have heard different things. The end of the year 2012 is what I've heard. I also plan on shooting there, so I'm very interested in this info. Do you know what the exact address is? I will drive there and tell you all what is really being done.

Re: Long Shot Range/Homestead FL/500 yards

They are at SW 117th ave. & SW 304th St just behind the Base. Its about 5 minutes from my house, and I drove by twice but no one was there.

From there Facbook page:

February 3rd

The range is approved and now it is time to get to work!!!

March 6th
We are now in the the process of zoning & permiting which takes place in the building off Coral Way & the Turnpike so if you have any connections there let them know that this project is great for the community and is endorsed by several police departments and as wel as being considered for use by the Air Reserve Base in Homestead and several Federal Law Enforcement departments!!! This is a WIN WIN for all of us!!!

April 8th
Still in the Building & Zoning process. I don't know why Miami-Dade cannot be more business friendly. It is very frustrating and I can see why companies go to different cities to open businesses!!! If we would have been withing the city of Homestead this would be done already. They are VERY pro business unlike Miami-Dade!!!

Thanks everyone for your support. I just wish the Mayor, who among other things ran on a platform of being more business friendly and creating more jobs, really meant it. Calls to his office about this project have gone unanswered.

I just met with representitives from Customs & Immigrations on Friday who told me they would they would start using the range for training that day if they could. Local law enforcement, federal law enforcement, the military and civilians have all made it clear this range is very much needed yet we have departments in Building & Zoning in Miami-Dade that have turned down applications for a Certificate of Use for piles of dirt.

PLEASE tell me why electrical, mechanical, and other departments are turning down applications for piles of dirt. Like many have said the shooting public are avid voters and you should make future voting decisions as you see fit!!!

Re: Long Shot Range/Homestead FL/500 yards

I'm more anxious for this to open than I am for my tax stamps. Manatee is 4 hours away and they don't have that much steel there, but at least its 1000yds and is free for military. Trail glades is a joke and not even worth the 25 minute drive in my opinion.

New Update...not good

May 28th

Still going through Building & Zoning. The original plan was to open with the big bathroom trailers like you see at events and then work on permanent bathrooms. The county said we would have to have permanent bathrooms to open so that cost us some time but the bathroom plans are now approved. We would like to say we would be open by September but with the county who knows.

June 14th

Well finally some good news. The plans for plumbing and electrical have finally been approved. Now we can start working on the bathrooms and getting electricity to the site!!!

Re: Long Shot Range/Homestead FL/500 yards

So I finally took a drive to this place on 304 street SW and 117 avenue to take a look. The gate was closed at the time with a stop sign that had a bunch of bullet holes in it. I can you that the access road is full of pot holes due to the regular use of heavy farm equipment on it. If you drive a nice car, you may not want to use it there during the rainy season. I also looked it up on another forum, and found a thread where the person in charge had gotten in an argument with some of it's members. The only thing that troubled me about that was he made comments about not needing the public to support his range. That there was already plenty of government agency's lined up to use the range.

This coming from an individual who I understand was running for some form of local office, and asked the public to vote for him. Same guy who asked the local public shooting community to come out and support him for approval at the zoning hearings. Im certainly hoping that the public will have an opportunity to use this private range, and that he will conduct himself professionally, and courteously, considering all the support he has gotten from the public.

It's funny how most politicians forget what they promised after they get what they want. I know this only affects the local guys in south Florida, and it's no one else's fight, but a little support from all who care about their sport keeps the opposition in check. Once all the smoke clears, and the facts are out, I will post again. Thank you.

Re: Long Shot Range/Homestead FL/500 yards

It was going to be approved many months ago. Even the people working for the county were shooters and wanted this. I hear the owner tried to sneak a retail store through, therefore now it needs bathrooms. He is trying to make it seem like the local government is keeping him down, when in reality he seems to be full of shit.

Re: Long Shot Range/Homestead FL/500 yards

Well, I drove by the place the other day, and the only thing I saw was a closed gate with a stop sign on it that had bullet holes in it. Didn't look like any activity going on. Guess we will continue to drive to Manatee if we want to shoot beyond 100 yards.

Re: Long Shot Range/Homestead FL/500 yards

There is a range in okeechobee that does 200yds all day and 500yds three times a month. On fridays i think. Its a little drive but the people there are actually pleasant and helpful. Prices aren't bad either for the whole day. You can also bring your own ammo and targets. www.okshooting.com
