I have a rem700 in a manners stock with the badger mini chassis. I have a few AICS magazines but I need a longer OAL than the 2.89”.
I have an ALPHA mag which fits (and has a longer OAL), but I’m wondering if the AW and AX mags will fit the bill as well?

What bullet you using and oal to lands?

They won’t fit or feed in an unmodified R700. Accurate makes a 2.950 .308 magazine that’s AICS pattern.

You might need to notch or trim back the feed ramp but that’s not too bad.

178gr bthp. They’re loaded at 2.90 but I can go out to 2.92. I’m using modified Pmags right now that allow me to go to 2.90. I’ve milled the receiver to allow the longer OAL, just need to know if the other mags will fit in the bottom metal.

Those bullets don’t need to be super close to the lands. They can jump a good way and be accurate. Have you tried them at mag length now? I shoot them at standard factory length of 2.800 and they are very accurate.

As mentioned you need AICS mags for that set up but the longer mags with no binder plate should be plenty long for you.

It sounds like that bullet is really sticking out of the case. How much of the bullet bearing surface is in contact with the neck when seated?

This is at 2.90. 2.923 is when the bullet touches the lands. Maybe I’ll play around with the seating depth and see if there’s any benefit/detriment to accuracy. Accuracy right now is pretty good though.

Play with it a bit as those bullets are pretty jump tolerant. I wouldn’t be surprised if you put them at 2.850” and they shoot as good as where they are now.

^Agree, my 700 5R jumps factory 175 GMM 250 thou - into 1/4 moa out to ~600. Played with the TMK's and the 178 eld-m's - very insensitive to seating depth. I'm running 208 eld-m's now, 20 off @ 3.043", single shot obviously, but much better ballistics.

I think my 178 load was at 2.830 and they shot great. It was a very easy bullet to load and tune for me with the Rem 700 5R. Now I have a new GAP barreled action and it has a very short chamber so I have to start over again. It touches the lands now at 2.830. I pushed it back to 2.800 and it still shoots well, but not where it was before. I may just skip it and go to the 176 A-Tips since they have been phenomenal in my 65CM.

Bumped some rounds back to 2.86, which now fit in the AICS mag fine. Groups at 100yards were just as good as the longer OAL. Thanks for the feedback.
For the future, it doesn't matter if the bullet is jumping 0.010 or 0.120... as long as it shoots accurately, the amount of jump is irrelevant.

My 6.5 creed Tikka is jumping bullets .090" and shoots phenomenally.
