Just put a 16.5" tactical solutions barrel on my 10/22. It has a leupold vari-x 111 4.5x14 scope and a new hogue stock. I shot it for the first time today and it was all over, I'm talking 6 to 7" groups at 50 yds off of a bipod and sandbag. I was shooting remington viper hyper velocity .22s, That's all I had. Tactical solutions suggests using CCI mini mags. The ammo can't make that big of a difference can it? I believe tactical solutions claims 1" groups at 100yds, and I've read tests where they have shot 7/16 groups at 100yds using CCI mini mags.

Re: looking fo help with a 10/22

Those rounds suck.Period. That combined w/ a brand new (not broken in) barrel. yep, problems. Theres a reason they suggest mini mags, but I would go buy a bunch of 50rnd boxes of various stuff and see what it likes. Try Federal 510s, both my 10/22s (one w/ a Kidd and the other w/ a Whistle Pig) like them better than match ammo

Re: looking fo help with a 10/22

when it comes to rimfires shooting well past 50 yards, picking ammo that works well in your setup probably the #1 factor to consider. spend some $ on several brands and configurations, then when you find one that is the best that you can afford repeatidly, buy a whole bunch of it.

there's more threads out there, but these should keep you busy:22 ammo threads click and scroll up

those federals mentioned above, and wolf, sk, rws, eley - all seem to be the best performers (with some exceptions) across the board.

good luck.

Re: looking fo help with a 10/22

If all you have available is that Remington and you can shoot it at only 25 yd. for group size. As everyone else suggested that ammo isn't going to do anything but piss you off out at 50 and beyond. Pretty much anything will shoot an inch or less at 25. If you've never shot off a bipod, lose it for sandbags temporarily. Nothing that was assembled is loose, right?

Re: looking fo help with a 10/22

Thanks for the help guys, looks like I need to pick up some ammo. I've checked the v-block,action screw, scope mounts and base and every thing seems to be tight. My target looked like I was patterning my shotgun for god's sake.

Re: looking fo help with a 10/22

Remington .22 ammo is the Wolf of the rimfire world. Utter dogshit.

On the other hand Wolf rimfire (it's made in Germany) is the rimfire equivalent of tailored precision handload in the centerfire world.

Re: looking fo help with a 10/22

Stay away from the hi velocity rounds, they just don't seem to be as accurate, at least not it anything I shoot, CCI Mini-Mags included. Pick up some ammo in the 1000-1100fps range. Wolf Match Target and Match Extra are a great value.

Re: looking fo help with a 10/22

I started my shooting with new barrel, trigger, and stock at 25 yards, then moved to 50, then to 100 yards. It helped me with scope set up and ammo selection. It everything is tight and set up properly, maybe you should try that. Even with remington crap, I am shooting fairly consistent groups (not small) at 100.
