I have a couple of cots. A mil-surp cot and a Browning cot that I really like. I can't seem to find the Browning so thought I would query this collection of knowledge to see what others recommend as a sturdy durable camp cot.

Here is a stock photo of my Browning

Hello,

Not sure what kind of camping you're planning on but since my military days of sleeping on the ground often under the stars I have come to really appreciate a hammock.

With a hammock and tarp you can dx the tent and sleep a lot more comfortably. You can also save alot of weight in comparison.

If a hammock would work for your situation give it some consideration. If you still want the cot look at The Sportsman Guide or some similar company and you will probably find a mil-surplus type cot.

What is your application?

Obviously you are not hauling around a cot on a backpack, so I will A$$uME that you are truck camping or base camping.

If it's just you and the climate is mild I would consider a "cot tent" as a self enclosed unit. Also works very well inside another tent if the temps are "frikkin cold" with the addition of a tarp. When hot, adds a second barrier for flying teeth.

Camp Rite and Cabella's both offer them.

If comfort is the goal and getting off the ground is not essential I am also partial to folding foam mats. 3" of high density foam is a beautiful thing after a day of riding heard on Boy Scouts. Inflatables also are very nice if you can keep them air tight (pump and batteries are a MUST!!!!!!!).

Cheers,

Doc

Re: Looking for a Good Camp Cot

This is for my wife for elk camp in November in the Idaho wildnerness. It will be going in my sheepherders tent along with a GOOD wood stove to keep her warm

Temperatures can get in the -10 to -20 so a cot keeps you off the floor and up where the wood stove heats the air. It is amazing the stratification of the air below the wood stove. It can drop 40 to 50 degrees.
