Rifle Scopes Looking for a hunting scope

I am looking for a hunting scope for a 6.5 WSM built on a Savage action. I want to keep the scope weight down, as the PacNor barrel was ordered to keep the rifle light. Looking at Burris Sig Select and Leupold VX3 lines in the 3-9 or 3.5-10 magnification range. I could live with a 12-14X on the top end but if I get a PA/AO scope the weight goes up. I do want some type of ranging reticle (mil dot is OK). I'd like to keep my $$ in the U.S. but will consider all but Chinese/Phillipino scopes.
Let me know what is out there.

PS: This will replace my older Vari-X III 3.5-10x40 (non AO). What is the old Leupy worth on the used market??

Re: Looking for a hunting scope

I only buy Burris or Pentax for my hunting rifles. They have very good glass and IMO are the toughest. My 7-08 rides on my 4 wheeler year round and has only had to be rezeroed once in 5 or 6 years but it gets checked frequently. I also own several of the pentax pioneers and they were made by burris for pentax. They are just as tough. I have owned just about every make at one time or another but always had to rezero at least 1 or twice a year. Now mine do get bounced around in the truck or on the 4 wheeler. Now my target/bench rifles are different I seem to collect scopes for them I have 1 NF, 2 Leupolds,2 weavers, Menace and it goes on and on. Night force does have the best glass but that one is on my wifes bench gun. That was the only way I could spend that much on a scope.

Seriously, though, how can anyone who knows anything about it give you advice about a hunting scope when he doesn't know what kind of hunting, where, or how the hunting will be done?

Re: Looking for a hunting scope

based on the magnification range your mentioning what about the new weaver 3x-10x its rather compact and light and its mil/mil. good glass and at $400 its a good value, and if the discount code is still good at $300 great value.

Re: Looking for a hunting scope

If you are wanting the 12x on the high end the Burris Sig 3-12x44 is a tough one to beat. Light weight and can be mounted low. They only offer it in their balistic plex but I know they offer retical changes.
