Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums here. I've been told that this is a great site to find out any information on scopes =]

I've been in a bit of a mix in regards to which scope I want to put on my loaded NM M1A. I've been getting pretty good at the irons, and now that I'm use to it I want a nice optic. Here's a stock pic of the M1A model I have:

One of my big concerns is the weight of the rifle. Right now it's getting near 13 pounds (loaded), which is currently not a big problem though. I'm only about 5'6 but I'm a pretty stocky/athletic and don't have a problem lugging it around, but if I can reduce the weight I will try if I can! When I go hunting with this thing, I do a lot of walking in the wilderness (miles) so if I can cut down on weight that would be awesome.

The few scopes I've personally been looking at are:

1.) Vortex Razor HD - I looked through this one yesterday and it looked great. I loved everything about it, besides the fact it was kind of on the bulky side and it was pretty heavy. Two features I didn't really want :(
2.) Vortex PST x24 FFP I liked this one as well. It's obviously not as fancy as the Razor HD, but it was lighter and less bulky in my opinion so that might be a plus. But I held this scope about a year ago, and my memory could be fading.
3.) Burris Eliminator III x16 - (Never used) But based off the videos and all of that, I really think this could be a awesome scope! It's lighter than the Razor HD, has a range finder built in, so it saves me from doing all the math (which I'm bad at). But I'm scared about the electronics breaking. Electronics usually always fail at some point in time.

My main goal is to purchase a scope that will last me the rest of my life. Warranty is a huge thing for me, especially when I'm going to drop big $$$ on it which is why I like Vortex's warranty. The Burris has a forever warranty (but it's not as good at vortex) and only has 3 year warranty on the electronics from my understanding. But the features are pretty awesome with the range finder built in. But I no idea what they would charge you after the warranty to fix it if the electronics broke. I will be using my scopes for hunting and target shooting long distances out on the ranch.

Please let me know your thoughts or suggest others I may have not thought of that fits what I'm looking for!

there are a lot of scopes out there that would suit your needs. It all depends what features you want. zero stop, locking turrets, parallax adjustment, SFP vs FFP. figure out a few of these things and that will narrow your choices significantly in the lightweight category.

I'm wanting FFP, but will do SFP if the scope is really worth it for the other features. A zero stop is a must (unless it's something like the Burris Eliminator) Something with "tactical" knobs preferred, nothing less than x16, lifetime warranty is a must for me (being that I want this to be my lifetime scope for the M1A if I can help it). Everything else I'm really up to suggestions.

Thanks!

I have fallen in love with the March scopes. I own a Vortex now but dream of getting a March. I can't even say it is because I have looked thru the glass or it has this or that feature. could an owner of a March please let me know that my dream scope is dreamy because...

Thanks in advance.

Your scope choice would depend largely on your budget for starters. Once that is established, get the best glass you can, with the most features that you like, for the funds you have available. I personally recommend the PST FFP 6-24...

Just sayin.

z71rat, I've been thinking hard about that model too. I know the Razor HD has better glass and features, but it's also 35.2 vs 23 ounces with the PST being lighter. With my M1A being heavy, I wonder what is exactly the best scope for my situation. Sacrifice on the glass for reduced weight for the PST? I personally have a budget in mind from anything from $800-$1,800 preferably. I thought about forking the money over for the razor hd 2, but that's way too much weight added to be practical for anything other than competition shooting in the field in my opinion with my rifle. (I know I can pick up a razor hd used for probably $1,800 at least somewhere and the PST is even cheaper) But again I'm not sure about the weight.

I called Burris today, I also found out that they changed their warranty. They now cover the electronics and scope for lifetime on everything. Unless you break it by dropping or crushing it for example, then they give you 35% off of a new scope for retail price. But anything else if free on the warranty. So the eliminator III still intrigues me, I'm in IT, so anything technology related sparks my interest.
