I'm starting to look for a set of rails for my AR 15. The only brand I've got any experience with is Surefire two piece that seems to be discontinued. I really liked this set up because it used a set screw to lock the two halves together.

Can anyone recommend a brand similar to that? I've looked at Brownells but I'm going to have to sort through each one trying to decipher the details. I was hoping someone could save me some time recommending a good brand.

My ultimate goal is to mount a vertical grip and light.

How much are you looking to spend? How hard use will your rifle be? Does it need to be free float?

the MOE will probably be your cheapest option and they are plenty durable. I started there and used them for years with no issues. Second you could look at something like the Daniel Defense M4 FSP rail. It has a cutout for your front sight post, is free float and plenty of space to mount anything you want. Or you could look at a low pro gas block and move to something like the BCM KMR which is head and shoulders above anything else I've used personally.

This is the evolution I took and I'll tell you that each of those options were solid and worked fine for what I needed at the time. However, in the end, my rifles wear the KMR rails now and it's been the best by far.

Thanx for the replies. My needs may have just changed a bit. I had a local police department reach out to me for a part time position. That would mean this would be a duty platform as I doubt they'll issue me one as part time. So this also just got kicked up a notch on priority to get a weapon mounted light (currently doesn't have one). I have liked Magpul for a long time and they seem to make good stuff but durability is #1. Thanx again and as soon as I know more about that part time spot or my budget allows, I'll probably be getting something.

Not to derail your thinking but personally if this was a gun I am betting my life on I'd ditch the M&P. A colt 6920 with a Daniel Defense rail is going to be just about your most bomb proof option.

Ive owned the M&P. It was fine but it also had a few malfunctions on me. I haven't had that issue from my Colt and it's pretty much the gold standard for a fighting AR15.
