Looking to start the process of picking up my first suppressor. Would like to stay on the cheaper side for now and have looked at the AAC 762-SDN-6 and the YHM Resonator. Would be going on a Rem 700 SPS in 308, and would also like to try on a Rem 700 in 223 and an AR also in 223. Any input on either of these? I know the AAC is pretty popular, but anything else in this price range I should be looking at instead?

Also, when is a good time for deals? Should I hold off until Black Friday or just go ahead with it now and get the process started. Any input on where I should pick one up? Was thinking about Silencer Shop.

Thanks for any input, I'm sure you get these questions all the time but I appreciate any input for someone just getting into NFA items.

i cant speak to those two suppressors from first hand experience, but i’ll address yourlast question. i wouldnt hold off for a sale, if you can reasonably afford full price financially speaking. and i would make the decision as soon as practically possible and go ahead and get your check in and processing underway. the wait is pretty long at the moment, and i dont see it getting better.

There is a recent thread on the Resonator:
https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/yhm-resonator-why-not.6931866/

I bought a YHM Phantom Ti .308 and picked it up a couple of months ago. Haven't even had time to go shoot it yet :(

Probably better off not waiting for a deal that will never come given how long the NFA wait is. Maybe look on the manufacturer's Facebook site and see if they have a pattern of sales at a certain time. If you waited till black Friday on SilencerShop you'd be looking at maybe September of next year before you got your suppressor!

$600 for a stainless and Titanium can. $800 with tax
stamp. Accurate and quiet.

Mine on a HOT barrel after a 20-30rd string and check zero with 20mph gusts.

Chad Dixon with LRI runs these on their rifle team.

This is the SWFA of cans.

I just received my stamp for my first suppressor and even though it as a painful process with the waiting, etc....I want to purchase another one. I want a one size fits all. Has anyone had any experience with the GSL Multi Cal....?

Thanks in advance,

I have an AAC 762 SD, not the N variant and I've had a bunch of isssues with the 51T mounts. Out of 6 of them only one locks up tight and stays that way. (it is also filthy and is a monster to break loose again) The mounting system does not grab the teeth very well and backs off by one tooth. I can tell when it gets loose because my groups go to shit.

Sico omega has been a far better option for me. The ASR mount is legit and works great but, there is also a guy on here making titanium direct thread mounts. Adding those saves a bunch of weight and makes the can much shorter.

You're basically marrying the silencer. Get the best one. The one you actually want most. Hard to sell or move on from. Not like an accessory.

You're paying the same for the tax stamp. Save up a bit more and get the very best. You'll likely have this thing for over a decade, possibly for life.

I'll echo the above statements about quality. You'd be way better off in the long run if you just scrape together the funds for a better can. There are so many to choose from, that there isn't a reason to skimp. I run an omega and hybrid interchangeably on my precision rigs, they both hold up to accuracy tests just fine. I've run the ASR mount with both and have had ZERO problems. With a little searching you can find an Omega pretty cheap, and the thread modules can be changed out for different rifles with no real accuracy problems.

I appreciate the thoughts guys and kind of put this on the backburner to be honest. I need to start researching a little more and get this whole process started.

I have no issue going with a more well known/higher priced suppressor, but to be honest I can't find many complaints on the Resonator from the sources I've looked at. Everything seems pretty positive overall. I really just don't want to be throwing more money at something because the name is more well known when something like the YHM will suit my needs pretty well. Anything I should know negatively about the Resonator or YHM in general?

I do really appreciate the feedback.

another note, you'll never feel bad about getting a stronger suppressor. If you're ever ripping through 223 on a semi, you'll want a can that's better built just in case. There are lots of light weight well made cans, but they aren't rated for long strings of fire due to their construction. It may be a non issue, but why worry about it. Cans made from titanium and SS are heavier but also far more durable, generally speaking.

There's plenty of lightweight cans out there that's full auto rated. And titanium is lighter than SS

I'm with you. I am ordering my Resonator on Monday when my funds get out of Paypal jail.

RUN, RUN, RUN from the AAC can! I have four of 'em including two of the SDN6's and two 556SD's, TRUST ME!!!

Saker 7.62 is a far better hard use can and uses a much better mount (can use almost any mount actually, and also uses various replaceable end caps from a rebar cutter to 5.56 aperatures. The AAC can isn't bad, it's the mount that is truly shit. Unless you wanna buy ten mounts per can, find one that fits and send the rest back, OR cut, file or grind one to fit, just stay away. Plus their CS and warranty is atrocious.

Capitol Armory had Sakers on sale recently. I got two for $499 each for 5.56 models. $1300 with all the mounting shit, so a screaming deal actually.

Or get a TBAC, they aren't hard use cans but they shine for everything else. Worth saving for. The Ultra 9 is just a bad motherfucker in any caliber.

Elite Iron also makes a damn fine can and can do it for a decent price by using SS. I'd probably go with them if I was looking for a good can for a good price.

It's true you marry these fuckers for life, don't buy junk, you'll regret it. Buy once, cry once. But if you want a good .22 can for cheap, Liberty makes monolithic cans and those tend to work pretty well for .22 IME and I have 2 of them plus an integral barrel and they're all top notch performers.

So that's my advice, take it or leave it, I only suppress each of my rifles so what the fuck would I know? But you won't be sorry with any of the ones mentioned above and I'm sure, no I KNOW there are others, I just wanna stick to talking about what I'm certain of.

While most will complain about the 51t wobble, it's meant to be a feature and not a bug. It's a hard use battle can and engineered design of the mount is such that it keeps the can from being carbon locked on the mount
