Hello fellow sniper'shiders,
i'm new to the forum but have already learned alot...i am interested in trading my Heckler and Koch P2000SK for a left handed rifle, but I can't figure out the best caliber....I know I want a short action and I'm leaning towards a .260 Remington.....the only thing is that I haven't started reloading yet, so maybe a .308 would be better....I've had a couple of DPMS .308's and they shot great, but in a bolt gun i'm attracted to the better ballistics of the .260....Does a .260 do OK in a 20" barrel, or would I be better going with 24" fluted?....this gun will be for deer hunting and for the occasional paper punching friendly competition against my brother's wilson combat ar15, my dad's custom howa heavy barrel .243, and my buddy's ruger varmint 25-06.....also, would i be best going with a 5r barrel? (bartlein, mike rock, etc.)

Re: Looking for Left Handed

Look at a LH Remington SPS Varmint if you are thinking about a .308. It's a 26" but you can always cut it down. Put it in a real stock, mount a good scope and it'll shoot. I can get .4" for 5 shots at 100yds. There's no telling what somebody who can shoot could do with it.

Re: Looking for Left Handed

i've been eyeballing one of those on gunbroker for around $580....i was thinking about a richard's microfit stock in left hand thumbhole, as i have alot of experience finishing them and i usually turn them out really nice...this might be the route i'll have to take until AICS makes a 700 lefty rig...i suppose i can rebarrel to .260 once i get all of my reloading stuff together....can't understand why howa doesn't make a left handed barreled action, or why remington won't just sell a left hand action alone for the fellas that want to rebarrel/build...what the crap?...why do you have to buy a whole rifle just to get an action?.....we southpaws have got it rough!!

Re: Looking for Left Handed

Tikka T3 Varmint LH .308 here.

Savage FLCP-K is also an option, as is the SPS Varmint LH.

I'd avoid the remmy unless you plan to upgrade and maybe get it tuned. Savage is a great rifle and is deadly accurate. So i'd suggest it.
I got the Tikka because of the delivery issues with the Savage. Plus Tikkas are more common here in oz and the gunsmith, god forbid something needs doing with it, is more familiar with it.

All three of these rifles will do you well. Savage is an out of the box shooter and is the easy choice. Reminton is a great upgrade platform to build on.
And the Tikka is a straight out of the box, quality rifle that is hampered by a lack of upgrades. However the Bolt can be replaced as can the shroud. EGW makes a rail which is excellent and your only drama will be the trigger and Bottom Metal.
However the RCS II will replace the stock and bottom metal in an excellent, unique chassis. The trigger itself is very crisp and i like it, so i dont plan on replacing it anytime soon.

Re: Looking for Left Handed

Get the Remmy 700 SPS-V in .308 and ditch the stock. H-S Precision and McMillan have options for you, perhaps others. Great little package and plenty of aftermarket parts/upgrades.

Re: Looking for Left Handed

buy a savage 308 and when your ready you can buy a .260 barrel and easily change it yourself. they have HS and McM stocks available from the factory. you wont be sorry

+1 on the 700 sps varmit and change the stock. You gotta learn to crawl before you can walk. IMHO wait until you learn to handload very well before jumping into a 260 that your gonna pay big bucks for someone to handload rounds for you until you get your skills mastered
