Looking for Long Range AR platform...suggestions?

I was looking for a long range AR platform and was considering the DPMS SASS or Mini SASS. I know the Mini SASS will be limited to less than 1000 yards but either would do for what I'm looking for.

The problem is that apparently nobody in my area can get one. I looked online and can't seem to find one online either.

I started looking into the Bushmaster Varminter but I know I'd have to make a bunch of changes right off the bat.

So are there any other rifles out there that I'm not thinking about that would fit this bill? I'm looking for something that is set up for this type of shooting that I can build off of.

Thanks!

These two posts pretty much sum it up. There are tons of topics within this very forum that will address any question you may have.

1000 yard AR platform? Unless you have some serious cash laying its not gonna happen. Go with a 6.5 creedmoor, only issue is ammo availability and price. DPMS has. 6.5 for I believe $1100 leaving you some $$$ for a nice Optic.

long range? do a 6.5

if you want to have ease of crossloading with ammo i would get a 308/7.62

For me I tend to stay away from the wild cartridges for my SHTF guns. Nato will always be available. Maybe not exactly what you want but the gun will still fire it.

But as for distance, 6.5 all the way

Re: Looking for Long Range AR platform...suggestions?

I think AR platform and I think, well, AR platform as in non-.308 AR's.

So with that in mind, I'd like to add the 6.5G to the discussion. Mine is built like a military rifle using a KAC FF rail and a Harris bipod. I put an ACOG on it to begin with, I just wanted to make it into an SDM rifle, but the cut rifle barrel I got was so accurate it was printing sub-MOA groups with the 100gr. AMAX and not too bad with the 123SMK's either. Still working with different loads (all handloads btw) but nearly all have been well under 1MOA. Simply an amazing rifle, I plan on using it in highpower competitions this year to 600y, but it is good to 1000m.

Since this barrel blew me away, I've decided upgrade the build a little with a tighter, matched Noveske receiver set (I can use the Aero Precision ones on it for something else) a Geissele Hi-Speed trigger to replace the tuned NM, and changing out that ACOG with a US Optics mil type (not dot) reticle, maybe the 1.5-6 or 2.5-8 or whatever they are. I think with a rifle that accurate it deserves it, a better trigger, tigher fit and better glass will make this rifle outstanding. This one has rapidly become my favorite.

A Creedmore or Lapua or a .260 Remington will give you the same and even better performance since you can load 'em to higher velocities and you can get away with loading the heavier, highest BC 6.5's to suitable velocities. The 6.5G isn't all that great with, say, 140's. Tradeoff is that the .308 platforms, for the most part, are heavier and feel bigger and more awkward. To me at least. The LMT MWS (or MWR?) felt pretty nice though.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be getting a .308 AR and a custom, cut rifle barreled upper to go with it in 6.5 or .260 (which appeals to me because I can use plentiful .308 brass to form .260) but I think the 6.5G deserves mentioning.
