well first off let me go ahead and say hello considering this is my first post. I have been watching for sometime but figured its about time to get some real advice on my first build. so heres what i have now:

Caliber - .308
Twist - 10
Barrel - Broughton
Barrel Contour - Heavy Varmint
Barrel Length - 24"
Action type – Remington 700
Stock - Bell and Carlson A2
Scope - something mil/mil
Scope Mounts - EGW Mount and thinking seekins rings
Bottom Metal - planning on R&D mag kit
Suppressor/Muzzle - ??

i plan on having the gunsmith true the action and skim bed.

so now that i've listed all that....am i on the right path? am i missing anything? any good tips, tricks or work i should have done

Re: Looking for some advice

pick the right smith and he will know all the tips and tricks. sounds good so far. didnt B&C have a new stock out thats even more A5ish? is that the A2? remember brownells is selling 700 actions for $400-$500 if you cant find a cheap donor rifle

Re: Looking for some advice

For starters,if you do not already own a donor action, buy a custom action to start.A R700 is a great action, but by the time you add up work on it such as trueing it,time and tig weld bolt,After market bolt knob, side bolt release, tapped for 8-40 screws, recoil lug,etc you will have a pretty penny in it,even if you do the minimum and not everything I listed. It will still be a R700 action in the end.

There are a few good custom action makers out there and your resale value will be a lot higher in the end.Besides the satisfaction of useing one of the best.

Re: Looking for some advice

the A2 is the same stock as the A5 without the attachments, they do make the A3 but has a cutout at the bottom. i got the donor rifle rem 700 sps for 400 but now after checking into what you said sandrat i wish i had made this post sooner. i bought the donor off the advice of my local gun shop/long range specialist, maybe i will sell the donor and go that route.

Re: Looking for some advice

No disrespect, but I think the B&C A2 is a great stock. Relatively inexpensive also. I'd stick with it.

Re: Looking for some advice

Give Mark at Short Action Customs a call. He does great work.
