I've gone back and fourth on whether to get a Remington or Savage for a starter tactical rifle. I don't want to get into that debate but I do want to ask what are some good suggestions for other stocks that I could set the Savage into, especially with one with their new AccuStocks? I've been considering the 10FCP-K http://www.savagearms.com/10fcp.htm

I like the variety of options that are available for Remington and am not smart on what's available for Savage. I think the Savage is a great start but personally, don't like the stocks that they come with and would want to change it into something a little better later on.

check out manners and mcmillan, they will both inlet for whatever action you have. Also you can look in the optics and accessories forum and find some good deals from time to time

Well, since you are talking about the Savage 10... here goes.

Here is my Savage. It is the Model 10FPLE .308 with the stock changed over to the Savage Low Profile Varmint stock. Keep in mind, the plastic factory stock yielded a 7/8" group @ 200 yards. Not too shabby.

What you are looking at now though, is the Spring '09 Smack the Smiley Winning Stick AND New Record Holder with a score of 270...

p.s. - I have to add though, I wish this thing had the brake like the one you are looking at so it wouldn't beat up my wife like it does... she is a trooper though!!

Savage 10Fp in a B&C Medalist Tactical...

I also have a 110 FP .300 WM in one of Stockade's Prairie Dog Specials - Kevin and the Mrs. are great people to deal with...

Re: Looking for stock suggestions for a Savage 10

Not to hijack your thread but im in the same situation. except ive got a new centerfeed model 10 and im looking to upgrade the stock. I like the looks and reviews of the B&C medalist but im not sure if they make one for the centerfeed. Im currently putting all my disposable income into reloading supplies and equipment so i cant afford a mcmillan or comparable. Any ideas or suggestions?

I'm right there with you. I'm not ready to pull out the checkbook yet so I'm really just info-gathering. But I can't argue against the fact that I can pick up a Savage 10 FCP-K at my local dealer for $800 versus a Remington 700P or XCR for over $1000. That's over $200 to play with and modify the Savage. It's hard to turn it down just because Remington is a better known name, especially with Savage's reputation.....Ah shit....I'm going "there"....back on topic

Bell and Carlson does make a replacement stock for the Savage 10 centerfeed. Its called the Medalist, part number 2997. I just ordered mine today from Stockys. $220 shipped.

Re: Looking for stock suggestions for a Savage 10

I just got in two B&C Medalist stocks for Model 12 centerfeed actions, one black and one factory water transfer/hydrographic camo. They are both very nice stocks and fit better than the B&C DuraMaxx for the staggered feed. B&C gets a little bit of a bad rap for the fit of the DuraMaxx stocks but I had two of them two years ago that worked well with just a little clean-up in the action area.

Re: Looking for stock suggestions for a Savage 10

Purchase a DBM & bottom metal from Savage and slap a New Choate Tactical A5 stock on it. It's a hell of a stock for the price. It's nicer in my opinion than the B&C stocks and looks better also.

Re: Looking for stock suggestions for a Savage 10

I have seen a Sharpshooter Supply stock conversion on a Savage with the factory DM, and I like it. It had the Sharpshooter supplied magazine extension incorporated to provide a ten round capacity, and fed very well with .260 Rem, for which it had been rebarreled by SSS. Function and accuracy were excellent.

I have had two Savages with McMillan Tactical Stocks, and A3 and an A5, and find them to be very good for my purposes, which are primarily centered around F Class shooting. One of them now sits in my shooting partner's rack. Mine is the A3, one of the original Ghost Dancer SH project guns, and the other is the A5 which has gone theough asuccession of chamberings, originally with the twin to my L-W 28" .260 Rem barrel, and now is .223 using a factory Savage 10FP barrel as our FV200 loaner rifle.

I recently had occasion to see the newest Savage 10FP with the HS Precison factory stock; very, very nice.

Re: Looking for stock suggestions for a Savage 10

Well the good news is, I have a Savage 10 FCP in .308 on it's way with the factory HS Precision stock

. So I already have a good stock on it and I won't be starting with one of their cheaper ones. I am still looking at cheesing it up a bit but I've heard nothing but good things about the HS stocks. So I may not be doing that for a while.

Re: Looking for stock suggestions for a Savage 10

Stockade makes a great product. I've had two B&C DuraMaxx stocks, and both worked great (others seem to of had less positive results, though).

Re: Looking for stock suggestions for a Savage 10

I have a Savage 10 FCP-K, like the link in the original post, and am trying to determine if anyone has put one in the McRees Stock system yet...that system is the way to go IMO, I am just not sure if McRees makes one of the new actions yet...???

Re: Looking for stock suggestions for a Savage 10

...and we must wonder if Savage will offer their new in house modular system that comes on the BAS-K model...seems pretty nice except for the stock which could likely be fixed with the addition of a PRS
