Poking around Midway and saw they were showing a "soon to be released" Vortex Viper scope in 4-16x50mm, FFP, .1 mil adj, EBR-1 reticle, Illuminated. Midway lists a price of $850

Add this one to the Weaver Tactical, and Sightron's fixed power Tacticals and suddenly there are a lot of mid priced options available.

Finally!!!

Link:

Midway Vortex Viper search

Looks like 6 new scopes:

4-16x50mm MIL/MIL & MIL/MOA?
2.5-10x4mm MIL/MIL & MIL/MOA?
1-4x24 MIL/MIL & MIL/MOA?

Nothing mentioned specifically about FFP. All are illuminated. All are listed as "Not for external Sale. And all are under $700.

This is very good news, FFP or not....

Actually, item number 489414 says "Vortex Viper PST Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 4-16x 50mm Side Focus 1/10 MIL Adjustments First Focal Plane Illuminated EBR-1 Reticle Matte".

I'm looking forward to it too...

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

nhm16,

My search of Midway and Jason's search turned up different scopes and different prices. Mine does not mention FFP, and his does.

Reading further, it look like Vortex is going to release a boat load of scopes, perhaps both FFP and SFP MIL/MIL illuminated.

This is going to impact the tactical scope market big time, IMHO

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

Well,

Now that the cat is out of the bag...

Big news indeed!

The 4-16x50 and 6-24x50 will be available in SFP and FFP. The 2.5-10x44 will be SFP. The 1-4x24 with TCMQ moa and milrad reticle will be SFP.

EBR-1 mil and moa reticles with matching turret increments throughout on the largest three scopes. Illumination, side focus, I'm pretty keen on checking these out! These are scopes that make sense for shooters from a quality, feature, and price standpoint!

Vortex is listening and watching, and here's more proof.

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

This is awesome i am really excited about this. I know for sure i will pick up 1 or 2.

it is nice to have lower price options these days on good glass with the options and features many of us have.

dont get me wrong i love my schimdt but sadly i can only afford one but with these coming out, now i can outfit all my guns with mil/mil ffp scopes

great news!!!!!

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

That's not all that is new for next year from Vortex. I'll start posting links to all the new stuff on our site as soon as I get the go ahead from Vortex.

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

Looks like Vortex has every intention of owning the sub $1K taticool scope market.

There's a couple I'll have to have.

........hunter you were ahead of the game.

now somebody show us the reticles......

Still what to know about the eye relief.....???

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

if it's got external turrets.... friggen sold. I might get one regardless, but you would think if they knew to put a FFP reticle, external turrets would go along with it.

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

If that list is even close to accurate it will be check mate for Vortex in the optics world.

Sam@Vortex, thanks to you and your team for hearing what we need and trying to provide it. I've looked at your current 6.5-20 Viper and was impressed, the models listed above with the quality I saw in the current Viper line will certianly put the rest of the optics world on notice. Good luck and please keep us updated.

Scott, get ready, when these hit the market you'll be very busy.

Eagerly waiting with the rest of you,

Jason

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

I am thinkning about this realy hard. Trying to figure out how many dollars worth of scopes I have so I can get them sold to replace all with the same kind. Turrets reticle and the whole nine yards on all the rifles I have. For 900 each I am so on board. If these turn out to be good there will be no way to find them forsale.

That looks like MAP

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

These look very interesting.

Would you put the optical quality in the Nikon area or closer to a Mark 4?
Any word on durability?

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

Vortex is definitely making great optics and these new offerings prove this. I have the Razor HD spotting scope and it is killer. I just bought the Viper 6,5-20x44 from SWFA for my 22lr project for $2xx and if there is anything better at that price I'll kiss your a$$. Combine that with their "no questions" warranty and it becomes hard to justify why you would own anything else?

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

While no one knows what the reticles look like yet (except the EBR2 on the Razor), I wonder if the vipers, which have the EBR1 could be upgraded in the future to the EBR2 or EBR3 offered on the Razors. I am assuming the EBR1 is probably a standard mil reticle but maybe a little better.Vortex, any hints?

I had to LOL at this one, since Nikon is far from the lowest end, and leupy isn't exactly the high standard for glass quality... try Zeiss, S&B, USO, NF on the high end.

One should always consider the possibility that such a warranty exists because the manufacturer plans for the consumer NEEDING it. BSA is a great example. Some products are great marketing schemes rather than just great products.

I'm hopeful Vortex is everything they claim. Time will tell.
