One should always consider the possibility that such a warranty exists because the manufacturer plans for the consumer NEEDING it. BSA is a great example. Some products are great marketing schemes rather than just great products.

I'm hopeful Vortex is everything they claim. Time will tell. </div></div>

I've owned Vortex products for years, not a single hiccup

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

guess i have heard the complete opposite. The one looked through at just after sunset was better than my nikon 4.5-14x40 buckmaster. it was a viper just cant remember the exact model.

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

I'm excited with anticipation. I made a request over on ARFcom in the Vortex Industry subforum for exactly these scopes. A Viper line with exposed turrets, matching reticles and maybe illumination... looks like my suggestions have already been answered!

Thank you Scott for letting us know these will have exposed turrets. I'm gonna order one from you when they're available.

sounds like a Windows 7 commercial

My name is Black Majik, and the Vortex PST's were my idea! LOL

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

LOL, hardly. Sam and Paul are on top of their game. My suggestion on the industry forum was on the 18th of November. They're already thinking way beyond my feeble recommendations.

This is what I found on SWFA's website, under the Razor EBR-1 page:

I think it will be like the Razor's reticle with some minor modifications users have suggested.

Any word on durability?</div></div>

I had to LOL at this one, since Nikon is far from the lowest end, and leupy isn't exactly the high standard for glass quality... try Zeiss, S&B, USO, NF on the high end. </div></div>

My reason for picking those two brands was that I figured at these price points they would not be of any lower quality than Nikon and not any higher than Leupold.

Next time I will ask if it is between a BSA or a USO. BTW I have just dropped some change on an IOR. Would you consider the Viper to be on par with it?

i think i will need one of these. would it be better to just save and get the razor or go cheaper and get the viper?

We'll have images on our site the same day we get them from Vortex too.

Thanks, I just ordered some rings from you guys today. Awesome site and cs, thanks.

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way

*IF* they can pull off their well known optical quality and durability, with a good reticule design, with a lot of adjustment and durability/repeatability they will sell these things by the truckload at the sub $1000 price. They will own the market, there's nothing descent in FFP tactical scopes under $2000 now, so if they pull it off guys will buy them in bulk.

From the looks of the specs on the pre-order thread they are going to have a huge winnner. However we've all see too many products that didn't live up to their hype so hopefully when they hit the market and guys start putting them through their paces they will live up to it. If they do I can easily see myself buying 2-3 of them.

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way

I hope the weight will be more Viper like than Razor like.
Weight wise you could fit almost 2 Vipers where you could put a Razor.

These look like they will be really nice.
Vortex is getting my hopes up again.

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

Dang. I just bought a SS 10x HD but I gotta go for one of these.

Projected weight looks good. 22 oz for the 4-16 and 23 oz for the 6-24.

Hard to go for something sight unseen but I think we can count on these scopes being pretty nice.
These are the scopes many of us have been waiting a long time for.

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way

"the Phillipines"

Well that's certainly a surprise, and kinda a bummer. Although I can't speak ill on the Nikon's I have know that were made there. (other than the fact they don't have Vortex's killer warranty)

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way

Lowlights review of the Vortex Razor mentioned a possible shortcoming with eye relief. I wonder if this will be the same in the Viper line or if Vortex has addressed this?

I know Lowlights opinion is just that and is subjective, but I value his experience and judgement, especially since that's all I have to go on at the moment.

IF this is a 'problem' perhaps it would be lessened somewhat with the 4-16x?

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way

In terms of the eye relief on the Razor, let's talk about this. The eye relief on the scope is 3.9" How much do you want?

I *think* LL was referring to the sight picture at high magnifications, or the criticalness of it, when the scope is zoomed up toward 20x.

I have a S&B PMII 5-25x56 and a Premier 5-25x56 right here, let me tell you, at max mag the exit pupil is only 2mm+ and "shadowing" is very easy with all of them. I've heard Hensoldt is best in this regard but I think they keep the max mag to 16x with a 56mm objective and 24x is paired with a 72mm objective. This does help!

Just throwing this up here, it seems that the "criticalness" of the eye relief of the Razor has transformed into a bad eye relief problem, suggesting it is too short for comfort. This should not be the case.

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way

OK, I stand corrected.

I still wonder if THIS (criticalness of sight picture) possible "shortcoming" (for lack of a better term) could still be of concern with the Viper series?

For all I know, Vortex may have addressed this after reading Lowlight's review. I wouldn't put it past them.

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way

Like Scott mentioned, its a physical function of exit pupil size. The smaller, the less forgiving of eye placement for a centered, non vignetted sight picure.

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way

Got it.
I wonder why this brand might be less forgiving than others in this area? Or, maybe it isn't?
Just trying to learn something here.
Thanks.

For the Viper Tactical, I kind of doubt it. That scope is new and hasn't been reviewed yet. For the Razor, it's possible there will be future refinements of the breed

Re: Looks like a Vortex Viper in ffp is on its way....

Man, am I glad I stumbled on this thread!!! I am looking for some glass to top off an AR and a 308 project. If Vortex can deliver on these Viper PST's they will definitely be in the top running. Its hard to find decent FFP mil/mil scopes without busting the bank.
