I have watched and read Lowlight's explanation of shooting off of a bench vs. shooting prone and seeing the loss of velocity shooting off of bench when compared to prone **Great video**. Albeit a small difference in FPS at 100 yards, over distance this could add up. It makes sense how recoil management comes into play but is there anything else that causes a difference?

When I was told about the variations in velocity, I wanted to try that out. For me, I saw no difference in velocity numbers between the two positions. In no way am I disputing the video but that was my result at the range.

As far as the human aspect, I don't know of anything else that could cause a velocity change, either up or down. I'd suspect your recoil management is gonna be the main one and that will probably vary from shooter to shooter.

You won't see any difference if you are basically into and behind the rifle. Short guys can get behind the rifle doggy style. Taller guys, depending on their preference, can also cowgirl.

EDIT: My apologies. That would be reverse cowgirl. Not cowgirl. Thank you, Mrs. Culpeper for the correction.
