I’m in the market for a few LPVO’s, I’m curious what the current “go to” options are nowadays. Been a while since I looked into this segment.
$500.00 and below would be what I’m interested in.
    Thanks in advance.

  • We've got a our Forge 1-8x30 on a deal right now and it comes with one of our Tripod Kit Bags. It's 2nd focal plane, has ED prime glass, made in South Korea.

Burris RT6 for cheapest option, Vortex PST2 1-6 for right around $500 (check both DSG arms and euro optic demos, each are $500), if you can squeeze a bit extra the Delta Stryker ~$700ish is phenomenal.

Ignore the people suggesting Strike Eagle and Primary Arms SLx, both Chinese trash that belong in the dumpster!

Something to consider in your budget is that a decent mount costs north of $100. Weight is a big issue for me, as is a lifetime warranty that includes the electronic parts of an optic. Some LPVO's (and other optics) tout their lifetime warranty, but when you look deeper, it's only 5 years on the electronics. For those reasons. I'd go with the Burris RT-6 for a "no China" LPVO in your budget.

Made in China. Try to avoid them when I can. Many other options not made in China.

Never seen a swamp fox in person but just can’t imagine they could sell a quality or even partially quality optic in a 1-10 for that price. I’m sure it works but is there tunneling, durability, ect

The Steiner PX4I is the only thing in that price range even remotely worth a shit.
big difference between sub 400 with a mount and 700. Heck you can get the rt-6, mount and a fastfire 3 for under 600 I think.
Lowest I can find the rt-6 is 277 + shipping at this link: https://battlehawkarmory.com/produc...ack-matte-finish-illuminated-ballistic-ar-sfp. You can literally get 2 and have change left over for the price of a steiner. Is is twice as good? Can you show me the work on that?

Do you know how many NC stars, leapers, etc you could buy for the price of that Burris? Is the Burris 2-3x as good? Can you prove it?

    LOL

You can get them for $500 if you catch the right sale, you can usually get them in the $525-$550 range all the time if you shop around.
Point is the same and a Chinese optic brings other problems for me beyond just quality. If this was cars it would be like talking up Porsche Cayennes. They are fine cars, but they are out of my daily driver price range, and I am sure I am not the only one. The original question was about low cost LPVOs. The burris and a few others come up often under that topic. The Steiner has priced itself out of that range. I am sure it was a fine optic when it was priced at or near 500, but they are not that now. 580 is the cheapest I could find one.

So if you have used a Burris rt-6 what are the shortcomings? I can tell you from my view the P4xi shortcoming is price, and that is not insignificant in the land of budget optics. They have priced themselves out of that range and in my mind are mid-ranged optics now. I have used a vortex pst2 as well and would not have a problem using one of those with a little added cost, but beyond that i'm out for a budget optic. That is where I draw the line. I am sure the Steiner glass is better, but the rt-6 allows me to spot shots at 100 yards with a .223 with no issue and i have shot it out to 700 yards with no issue other than my poor eyesight.

I am not trying to start a pissing match, but it's like arguing apples and oranges when we are talking about 2 separate price points.

Do you think that sub $300 Burris is made somewhere other than China?

How does the Philippines stack up with Japan and China? Somewhere in between, maybe a little more like chinese glass than japanese?

Phillipino optics don’t hold a candle to Japanese optics. The quality over Chinese is negligible at best.

Japan makes a lot of really fucking good shit. Optics, cameras, cars, watches, you name it.
