Rifle Scopes LPVO or EOtech with messed up eyes.

Okay, so I’m trying to grab a good do all optics for my AR platform rifle. I intend to use the rifle for home defense, range, plinking, and maybe competition down the road.

here’s the kicker. My eyes are screwed. My left eye is completely dead, I have an uncorrectable astigmatism in my right, tunnel vision, optic atrophy, and a lot of other stuff. Long story short, my vision sucks.

that said, red dots are a no go for me. I used to be able to use them at one time, but as my vision got worse and worse, they got worse and worse to me.

I have heard that the green reticle EOtech works well for those with an astigmatism. Has anyone got any insight into this?

otherwise, I’m considering an lpvo. I have been looking at the vortex viper pst 1-6, and the vortex razor. I hear these are similar, but by how much? My main concern is the eye box. I need the largest and most forgiving I can get. Do these two have the same? Is one larger than the other eyebox wise? If so, by how much? Or is there a better option to look into?

so, what route should I take here? I’d love to go look at all this stuff locally, but sadly, I have to order online as it’s not on shelves anywhere.

honestly, I don’t want to spend the razor money, but if it’s the perfect choice, it’s the perfect choice. So, I’m open to options, but I’d like to stay under that price point.

as far as mil based or bdc, I have no preference.

Sounds like you want more close in stuff? I think if that's the case you should probably try a holographic sight like the EOTech for that purpose and then a magnifier for more distance. With an LPVO if you can't use a red dot now you won't be able to use it as a red dot either I don't think.

LPVOs come in many flavors.

Before some specific suggestions can be made, I believe some reading about the different directions these take is in order.

FFP vs. SFP
Mil based reticle or BDC
Power range

No doubt the new Vortex will be fantastic, but great options exist for less if you know what you require.

I have bad astigmatism and my eotech is almost unusable without a magnifier in front of it to “clean up” the reticle. Other non-holographic red dots work alright if not great (aimpoint, holosun, etc.). In your shoes, I’d def go with some flavor of lpvo.

I thought I read somewhere that sometimes folks with an astigmatism whom couldn't utilize red dot scopes worth a damn sometimes had good luck with a prismatic scope. Anyone able to comment from first-hand experience? I don't have an astigmatism, so I don't know. Just throwing that possibility out there...

Yep, if a 1-6x gen2-e makes it down to the $800-900 range when my tax refund rolls around, it’s gonna replace the Steiner 1-4x on top of my 3gun AR ?

Having uncorrectable astigmatism as well, I don't have the distortion on the Razor 1-6 compared to even the latest versions of Aimpoint or other red dots.

The Gen2 E will be awesome for you....I ran a gen2 non-Eand had no issues whatsoever when running it without my prescription glasses or contacts with my astigmatism. Dot is daylight bright, Aimpoint like and fast for an LPVO compared to some others I have tried. the only downside was weight but the E is a bit lighter.

I am also looking at getting an E model when prices drop a bit.
