Help me out guys, I can't make up my mind here.

Here are some background information:

- I have access to two ranges, both stretching out about 800 yards. Perhaps 900 if one were to push it, but that aint often.
- This will be my first semi-auto precision rifle
- I have access to pretty much free 308-brass

I can't decide what I should get between these three:

DPMS LR308 with 24" barrel (1:10)
DPMS LR308 with 16" barrel (1:10)
Bushmaster XM15 with 20" barrel (1:9)

I was thinking that with the Bushmaster I could use 75grs Hornady which certainly makes the 223 a capable round when pushed fast enough. However I cant shake the feeling that it would be smarter to go with the LR308 and push 155 Scenars.
I have tried all three, and I like every one of them.

LR 308 with 24" barrel:
- Great barrel length for speed
- Great accuracy

LR 308 with 16" barrel:
- Great accuracy
- Much more compact and easier to carry in the field

Bushmaster:
- Less recoil
- Cheaper to feed

Hope to get some input here guys.

Re: LR308 or .223 AR15?

it all depends on what you're trying to do. If you intend to mainly bench shoot, I'd go with a LR308 in 24". Since you say 308 brass is free, I'm assuming you reload. That alone save you half the cost of ammo. It'll also be easier to get out to 8-900 with .308.

If you intend on hunting with it, I'd stick with the 16". Lowlight shoots MOA out to 8-900 all day with a 16".

The smaller one first. Think of it as having training wheels. Then later the big chassis AR. The smaller chassis is easier to shoot well, parts availability better, etc.

The LR 308 with the 24" barrel would be my choice for long distance shooting.
