Hey, everyone.

I got myself an LTR (.308) after a few months in Afghanistan, and I have to say I'm very happy with my purchase. While I'm no expert, I can tell that the rifle is sub-MOA while I, unfortunately, am not quite there yet. I also do shoot with the cheaper Federal 150-gr stuff. Match grade ammo is so expensive...

I do have a couple of questions though:

1. Sometimes when I put 4 rounds in the internal magazine, the first round will fail to feed. Not a common issue, and I think it may be just me at times, but would there be a quick way to address this issue?

2. I'm considering an HS Precision detachable magazine setup. I've read mixed reviews about them, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask about it here. Would I have any trouble with it? I have access to files to do the minor modifications, but I'd rather not shell out $300 for something that might not work with my LTR.

3. I was home on leave and bought my dad an SPS Varmint. I'm planning on buying a 700P stock sometime in the near future and having it sent to him. Will the new stock go on the Varmint with little problems?

Thanks for any input! Also, I can't wrap my mind how Los Angeles has nicer gun stores and ranges (my family lives very close to Angeles Range) than here in Savannah.

Re: LTR owner and new guy here.

Welcome aboard. I have a LTR that is about to get a face lift. I am waiting on the new Manners T5a with their chassis system.

I don't have any experience with the HS Precision bottom metal but from the reviews I have read I would put my money elsewhere like Seekins or Badger. When you go that route you get something with better, more consistent reviews. I don't have any real time with either, so take it for whats it worth.

also an LTR owner and love the rifle,
I have very rarely had the same issue with first round feed, however in my case it is usually me not cycling the bolt fully or i put the round too far forward and it snags before it clears the feed lips.
observe conditions when it happens and eliminate possibe causes from there is teh best i can tell ya
welcome home

MK636,

Yes, it is usually from not having a round a set all the way back in the mag.

However, if you go the HS Precision DBM route, whatever problem your now having goes away.

I'm currently running two rifles with the H-S system, adding a third, and mine have all been trouble free. I run four 4 round mags, and two 10 round mags, all in 308, and I have yet to have a failure to feed, jam, or any problem at all.

The bottom metal is coated stainless steel, as are the mags. Everything is very stout. I too have read negative reviews, but I cannot find flaws in my setups yet. Perhaps because I run the H-S DBM only on H-S made stocks, and maybe others tried to get them to run on other brands of stocks. Or I've just been lucky....

In any event here's a pic of my LTR, w/H-S 10 rounder Mag sticking out.

Best of luck,

Re: LTR owner and new guy here.

Thanks for all the advice.

I've done a little research, and pretty much have narrowed it down to either the Seekins or HS mag systems. I know the Seekins has the button on the side, but how does the HS mag release work? CDI and Badger look good too, but I'm not quite a fan of how the latch sticks out on the trigger guard.
