Lyman 1200DPS3 GTG?

Re: Lyman 1200DPS3 GTG?

My last Lyman 1200 series scale couldn't hold its zero. It varies as much as 0.5 grains. Switched to the RCBS charge master 1500 and did fine.

Re: Lyman 1200DPS3 GTG?

I have the latest Lyman and it was given to me as a Christmas present so I live with it. I've had to adapt my processes to achieve results. By that I mean I do not use the auto setting, I hit zero prior to every powder dump, keep electronic interference to a minimum, re-weigh each load after it beeps, etc. I feel fortunate that I did not have any issues i. e. explosions in my face, in my early use because I found out through experience that some loads were 2 grains over what I wanted (30-6 and 308). I have learned to use it carefully and heavily supervise its operation and my reloads show it at the range by being accurate and up to speed. It was only through my perserverence that this item didn't end up in the front yard, full of holes from overcharged rounds.

I should have put a RCBS Chargemaster on my Christmas list!

Re: Lyman 1200DPS3 GTG?

I may be the only one in the world that has never had a problem with my dps3! I don't know if i got lucky but I am very happy with the lyman, It has been dead nuts and I have frequently checked it against my 505 scale and no problems. The only small problem I have with it is the powder pan seems to be to shallow for certain types of powder and splashes a kernal or two over the side every charge. I eliminated most of the problem by using the bigger pan off of my RCBS 505 scale and zeroing it out.I loaded 1000 rounds off of it and the only time it overcharged is when I tried to grab the pan off of the scale too soon and that is my own fault. This is my first autocharge and I have never used the RCBS unit but I couldn't ask for much more! RR
