We need more info, such as what is a M-852 chamber for starters?

Do you already reload?

What is the weapon specifically?

Re: m-852 chamber

it is a landtech 308 as the m-852 chamber that is about all i know just stressed that it has tight headspace and to only shoot factory match ammo is all that is reccomended by randy but would think you could load for it . no i don't load right now been awhile but wanting to get started back.

Pac Tool makes a " M-852 Match Reamer" you might call them but my guess is it as chamber for a 168 bullet Ojive with minium jump. Call them to confirm, and or measure ojive OAL with a Stoney pt gage

So I'm just guessing that the M-852 dohickey chamber has nothing to do with sizing a case back down to X, Y or Z headspace...it's mostly a function of seating depth?

Keep it at 2.800".

Re: m-852 chamber

M-852 refers to military Match Ammo that loaded the 168gr SMK over 42.0gr of IMR 4895. This is also where Lake City Match brass comes from. Oh they don't make it any more.

Essentially an M-852 chamber uses standard military head spacing at the shoulder and all the appropriate standard diameters but the leade geometry and distance is specifically to have .020" jump from a 168gr SMK loaded to standard length (which I can't remember right now). FWIW it is the reamer I request on any 308 I have tubed simply because it will work w/ every factory match ammo out there including 118LR, FGMM etc. There was a gray haired, grumpy old fart that insisted that 118LR would have the same ogive measurement as M-852. Sierra was kind enough to match the (new) 175gr to the 168gr as far as length vs ogive goes during development. To that we are much indebted.

Cheers,

Doc

Like loading for any rifle, if you have the COAL gage, or know where your lands are for a specific bullet you have a few questions to ask yourself:

Do I want to be mag safe, or do I want to single load?

How close to the lands can I get and still be mag safe and how far off the lands 'should' I be for optimal accuracy?

How long a COAL will my magazine accept, in the first place?

That's how I'd proceed.

Re: m-852 chamber

I use the 1995 Palma in 99% of the 308's I build. Where reloading is concerned, the M-852 Chamber is like all the others.

1. Establish FL Die settings on previously fired brass
2. Establish Seat Die settings based on chambers throat
3. Work your ladder up in .5 grain increments, watch pressure
