I got one of these pistols on Friday and ran about 500 rounds through it on Saturday. 2 issues. The gun shoots about 6" low from POA at about every distance I tried. I got to where I could hits spinners and gongs well if I just aimed at the crossbar they were hanging from. Not really acceptable for a supposed production class competition pistol. The other issue is the trigger has a slap similar to what a AK would have. it gets to be noticeable after a clip or two. Nothing to stop shooting over, but Ive never had a pistol do that. I have been shooting a 40 cal XD tactical for 5-6 years and am having a hard time feeling like I made a wise purchase once I shot them side by side. Anyone else have any of these problems with their M&P?

Re: M&P Pro Series 9mm

I am interested in this, as I was considering buying one. I shot an M&P 9 with APEX trigger upgrades last fall and it was amazing. It felt like cheating.
No trigger slap and sights were dead on.
Does yours have the fiber optic front (5")?

Re: M&P Pro Series 9mm

Sand bag it, I can't tell you how many times I have seen new Glock shooters say it shoots to the left, and watch my brother drill a target at 15yds POA.

Re: M&P Pro Series 9mm

I rested the gun on sandbags and it still shot low. I feel like it wouldnt be as consistent if it was me pulling the gun. It shoots low when I shoot fast or slow or even single shot paper groupings. I had a buddy shoot it and he found the same thing. My XD was drilling everything I pointed it at. I know getting used to a trigger could take some time, but I have never seen a gun shoot consistently low all the time when I was doing something wrong. Im going to cover the FO sight this week and see if that would help. Everyone noticed the trigger slap too. Hopefully these are things that can be ironed out with more shooting.

Re: M&P Pro Series 9mm

There's nothing wrong with your gun, it's you.

If you don't have enough experience with pistols to tell a clip from a magazine, you probably don't know how to shoot a group with one, either.

Really

If that is all you can add to this is criticizing a wrong term, get over yourself. If I responded to everything I saw on a forum that was a stupid question or minutiae, I would never have time to have a real life.

Re: M&P Pro Series 9mm

I have a question... When you shoot, do you cut the bullseye in half with the top of the front sight or do you "lollypop" it by aligning the bottom of the bullseye with the top of the front sight? I own an M & P 9 as well, but have not had issues with it shooting low... Just some food for thought for you

If you want a better answer, measure the height of your front sight and I'll try to measure the front sight on my M&P Pro. If yours is the same as mine, I'd blame you, not the sights.

The Pro does use a different front sight than the regular M&P. If somehow your gun got the wrong sights, that could make a difference.

I suspect, however, that 6" at 7 or 10 yards is going to be impossible to explain due to differences in ammo or minor variation in sight picture. That much inaccuracy usually comes from only one place--the shooter.

This will be manifestly obvious if you change the sights and you still shoot 6" low, which I suspect is highly likely.

Re: M&P Pro Series 9mm

To eliminate the possibility of it being you, get a dummy round and have someone else load your mag out of your sight with the dummy mixed in. Shoot a group, if it is you, it will be obvious.

Re: M&P Pro Series 9mm

Just something esle to keep a eye on:

The front sights on these are prone to shifting in the dove tail. My friends 9pro did it and google will lead you to many more examples.

I have a M&P9 full size and am quite fond of it. Thinking about a L or Pro next...

Re: M&P Pro Series 9mm

On the M&P pistols I have shot, the factory sight picture requires you to cover the desired POI with the fiber optic "dot" on the front sight (see pic #3 below). This is directly contrary to the typical 6 o'clock sight picture (pic #1 below) from most factory SA XD pistols. It could be a sight picture/alignment issue (at least in some part). I also suspect that the differences in triggers between the pistols is making some of the low impact difference.

** Thanks to NavyGuy on the SIGforum for the graphic **

As for the trigger...I would swap out the factory S&W unit for either an APEX or I'd get David Bowie from Bowie Tactical Concepts to work his M&P trigger magic on the pistol. If you want to move to adj sights, Bowie can install them for you if you provide them with your pistol.

Good luck!

Re: M&P Pro Series 9mm

Thanks for all the responses and help. I have tried shooting it using six oclock and POA=POI. I have read some stuff out there where some guns were shipped with the wrong sights and caused this problem. The heinie straigth 8 sights on my xd shoot perfectly to POA. I have no doubt that the gun is accurate, but I did spend quite a bit of time on Saturday running through things to make sure it wasn't just me getting used to a new pistol. No flinch on the trigger, shoots low even sandbagged by several people, seems to be a sight issue to me. I was planning to put Straight 8 sights on it at some point, but not so soon as I liked the factory ones. I will have a couple of nationally ranked ISPC shooters give it a shot if they are at the range same time as me and see what happens.

Same as both of mine. They both shoot POA but you do need to hold center instead of 6 o'clock.
I also sent you a PM.

Re: M&P Pro Series 9mm

Another thing that has not been brought up is that the M&P Pro unlocks very quickly. This causes the 3 standard bullet weights to shoot differently in the gun. Generally, the 115 will shoot low, the 124/125 will shoot poa-poi, and the 147 will shoot high.

Mine shoots 115s at poa-poi if I cut the front dot in half with the top of the rear sight.

Re: M&P Pro Series 9mm

Any trigger issues I have found will be ironed out with the Apex kit, and watching the you tube video on how to install it. My wife has the pro, and I have a standard with the Apex. I now have to install the apex in hers! Oh well. JPG

Re: M&P Pro Series 9mm

Went to the range with some 124 gr ammo and tested that with the different size backstraps. Found that medium instead of small turned me and the gun into a good shooting combo. I shoot this pistol more accurately than any pistol I have shot as of yet. Not sure yet how much of the difference is due to the 9mm vs 40 cal difference. I shot all distances out to 25 yards and back and was amazed at how well it shot. Double taps were much easier than with my XD and much more accurate. Thanks for all the suggestions and help.
