I am currently shooting an M1 Garand NM with a 147 FMJ or a 168 BTHP Match Hornady . Im running 45 Gr with the 147 FMJ and 46gr with the 168 BTHPM . I'm seating at factory recomendations with a CCI 7.62 Military Primer . Using Remington brass with the 168 and HXP with the 147 / I know the hxp is not great but it works for warming up . Any recomendations or hints would be great . I blew the dust off the thing after years of just sitting there and it shoots well . Shooting a 20" gond at about 560yds . Not so many hits but its a great time using irons that far and if I can tighten it up that would be great but I admit it's more than likely the indian not the arrow . Thanks

Re: M1 Garand

I used 46 grains of Varget useing Hornady brass, Wolf Large rifle primers with Sierra 168. Not a fast and heavy load but shot a clean slow fire and 97 rapid.
Its a stock M1 in 30-06. I can tweek it some more, but shoot good fpr an old gun

Re: M1 Garand

HXP brass works and is durable I just started shooting my Garand again so I'm in the R&D stage . It seems to cycle with no issues what so ever . I haven't gotten around to weighing them yet . But it does function reliably . The winchester 147 FMJ's are not very consistant at all but I had them lying around .

Re: M1 Garand

I would suggest Hornady 150gr FMJ with 50.0gr of IMR-4064, or 49.0gr of IMR-4895. For 168's drop either charge by a full 2.0gr.

I use commercial Win or Rem brass and regular Win WLR primers.

These are very basic, very commonly used Garand handloads taken right out of the NRA's Garand reprint booklet. As a service rifle load, they're good ones.

Re: M1 Garand

I use 46gr of IMR4895 175SMK and primer of your choice with LC brass exactly replica of the M72 match load accept with a better bullet.
