M1 USGI web sling question

So I got a new pack of them, not the nylon ones, and they are STIFF as all get out. I can't buckle the clasp.

I was thinking of removing the metal pieces then throwing them in the laundry or something, but figured I'd check here first.

Any thoughts?

No...! If you must, wash in Woolite and warm water in a sink. Remove and pat dry as you can get it with towels... hang and let air dry. Those web slings are made of 100% cotton...
