So i just picked up an M1A Loaded walnut stock and SS barrel, and here is what i want to do with it,
1. Steel mount that allows use of iron sights.
2. QD rings.
3. Cheek rest that dose not require me to drill into the stock.
4. Optics thinking about SS 10x42.
5. Harris Bi-pod
Just looking for everyone's input on what you guys prefer or have used in the past and how it work with the M1A.
Thanks

Re: M1A Loaded Build Questions

I just ended up selling mine and my wife's M1As but the setup I used with my wife's is as such.

M1A Loaded (Medweight bbl) w/synthetic stock
ARMS 18 scope mount
Leupy PRW rings
Leupy MK4 3-9x36
CoyoteM1A cheekrest
Harris Bipod adapter
Harris 9-13 Swivel

My suggestion to you is this

Since you're using QD rings, get the ARMS mount. It's the lowest mount and extremely stout. With your QD rings, pop off your scope and you're on irons. The mount is low so you will look right over it to use irons.

Now the caveat to that, you're wanting a cheekrest, get a CoyoteM1A cheekrest, they're a strap on unit. Their site is closed down temporarily but they have some of the thickest cheek rests I found when I was looking. Back to the caveat, the cheekrest will probably have to be removed to use your irons. The Coyote is pretty quick off and on, YMMV.

Form mounting a Harris, get their adapter. http://www.harrisbipods.com/HB2R.html

Hope this helps you out, good luck.

Oh, get the Sadlak Oprod Guide, it makes a world of difference over the stamped POS that comes with them.

Here it is, the one in the middle.

Re: M1A Loaded Build Questions

I'm allergic to ARMS stuff. I've got a SADLAK mount on one gun. You can see your irons under it but only if your scope has a 40mm objective or less. Otherwise the scope bell blocks the view. My other has a Bassett mount (high version) that you can see under just fine. The Bassett will also come off quick, unlike the Sadlak. It's the best bang for your buck for M1A mounts.

And +1 on the Sadlak spring guide. It's a drop-in job and worth the price in accuracy.
