Has anyone tried this combo? I just got word my brand new Springfield Armory M1A Standard model just arrived at my local FFL back home, after almost a year's wait. Next time I get up that way I'm going to stop and pick it up. I also got on the waiting list for a JAE Gen 3 stock and was wondering what some of you think about the combination, and how well does that bedding system of theirs actually work? The rifle will wear a 4.5-14x14 Leoupold for now, later on I'll swap out the scope for a 10x USO. Also, can someone recommend a scope mount other than one of the side mounts? I saw one that goes in the stripper clip groove but I don't remember who makes it.

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

I don't think the G3's are shipping yet. I had a G2, good precision setup, bad moving around setup... they're heavy. The G3 is supposed to be lighter but I don't know how much lighter.

As for scope mounts... you're kind of stuck, they're mostly side mount designs. I've seen one that removes the rear sight and uses the ears as the mounting point (CASM mount), the one you mentioned is just a piece of picatinny rail that replaces the stripper clip. It's designed as a rear scope ring mount point for the Sage EBR chassis. There's really not a lot of options.

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

Gues it'll be a CASM then, won't be able to use irons on it anyways, I know those stocks aren't shipping yet, as I said, I'm on the waiting list for the Gen 3, I was hoping someone could give me some insight as to the performance with gen 1 or 2 stoocks as from what I understand it is ergonomic modifications to the same basic chassis.

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

I have a gen II and it is a very sweet stock. Its freakin' heavy as hell but I love it anyway...reminds me of a piece of artillary and its a blast to shoot.

There's a few of us with these lurking around.

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

If you're referring to the upper guard it came with the stock, painted to match. Needed just a little filing at the forward lip to get a good fit though...a 1 minute affair.

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

Is there any good reason you can't use a unitized gas system or any of the other National Match prep stuff with JAE stock? Reason for all of these stupid questions is that stock is like $600 and if it isn't going to work as intended then I want to cancel while I still can. Also, do you guys have any problems with them side mounts loosening up on you and is there a best one to get? I don't care for the CASM and having to remove the rear sight, I'm liking the idea of a BUIS more and more here lately and was thinking about using a set of throw lever rings and maybe and maybe an A.R.M.S. mount if they're any good and allow "cowitnessing" (I guess that's what it'd be copnsidered) as in I don't want to have to remove my whole mount just because my scope took a crap.

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

i have the NM M1A in a Gen I JAE; very solid

got the Sadlak scope mount for it; get the measuring kit, cost is applied to mount purchase; very stable mount.

the way JAE locks down the receiver is to use inserts that mate with the tangs on the receiver, then you torque allen screws down; receiver is now solidly locked to stock

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

Then no reason you can't unitize the gas system? I want this thing to shoot as accurately as possible, that's one of the reasons I'm taking the scope off my primary hunting rifle instead of buying a cheap 10x for now (that and I replaced it with a 3-9x32 Ultralight as part of the rebuild so it was free)with the JAE stock is there any need to do any accurizing other than a trigger job or can the rest be skipped with no ill effects?

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

The JAE is good to go with all match conditioning. Unitized gas cylinder, NM op rod guide, tuned trigger, the works.

If this is going to primarily be scoped I'd recommend the Sadlak Airborne mount. Follow the installation instructions and torque it properly, they're rock solid if installed right. Depending on the scope/ring height you can see through the channel to use the iron sights with the scope installed.

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

Plan is to take the scope off if I need to use the irons. Was seriously considering the ARMS #18 base and #22 QD throwe lever rings as I have on my AR 15 but not completely decided yet.

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

The ARMS 18 is nice but very unforgiving if anything on the receiver is out of spec. I had some fights getting a few on SA Inc. rifles. That's why I recommend Sadlak, if there's an issue they'll rework the mount so it fits properly. Plus it sits higher so less chance of brass getting stuck.

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

Then it looks like maybe a Sadlak will be the way to go, not sure if I'll get the Airoborne mount or not though. Weight really isn't an issue, I'm not going to be using it as a duty weapon or deploying with it or anything. Just something to bang on some steel with, from 300-800yds or so.

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

Sadlak it is then, is there any substance tothere Tin coated gas piston and a national match gas cylinder with all of the other ntional match conditioning I want to do?

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

M1A's/M14's are finicky with gas pistons, yours may love one that mine hates. See how your rifle runs first, if it shoots to your liking keep your piston. If it's still not shooting tight enough for you try a new piston. I have 6 pistons here I'll be trying out, the one that groups the best stays in my setup. Their NM op rod spring guide is top quality as are all their products. Also look at Tubb CS springs for the op rod and trigger, good stuff.

Re: M1A standard+ JAE gen 3

Interestingly enough, this is exactly what I'm building.

- LRB barreled action
- Sadlak Airborne mount
- JAE Gen 3 stock

Lisa @ JAE recommended that I get the gas system unitized (which was before I realized what it would do). Needless to say, she wouldn't have made the recommendation if it would interfere with using the stock.

I also got my stock with the barrel tensioner option to help squeeze out that extra bit of accuracy.

The gen 3 stocks are still a ways out, so be prepared to wait.

You can order a matching handguard in either regular (standard or med weight barrel) or heavy barrel size. I believe it's an extra $60.

For the same price, always go with a heavy barrel hand guard in case you change barrels later.
