I now have the money for the rifle, and the qualifications to buy one.
trying to decided if I need one....

my other 308's shoot just fine, but seems like a nice Kit for $3800
rifle /Scope/ and all of the trimmings

I guess I cant see the advantage of buying it other then collectors value

hmmm what to do???????

This seems like a really good way to separate former Army snipers from their money. As I understand, it's a new action and barrel, so what about it makes it worth much more than a 5R? On my team in the NG we had a slew of M24's (as did my AD team). I used one and the others were basically unfired. If someone pulled the stock off one and mated it with a new barrelled action, the only separation between it and any other PSS/5R would be the tall tale they told you about its combat life. There are real M24's out there, I know someone with one or two. His has collector's value and he paid a hell of a lot more than 3800 bucks. If you really want an M24 clone and don't want to spend the time tracking down all the parts and getting a build done then maybe this is a good thing, otherwise I think the better idea would have been to sell the stocks/BM like they did with the M40 stocks. Post pics of whatever you end up with,

I would love to know how the person you know acquired government property. Because if the M24 he has once belonged to the ARMY then that is what he has. Remington has sold M24's to the public but never ones formerly owned by the military. These are not M24 clones.

I thought they were clones.

Only a few parts of each rifle actually have TIS in the military, and the rest were added on by Remington for this. My recommendation is that you buy a GAP M24, and save yourself the trouble between the new car vs. used car question.

Heck, if you want the asthetics of a M24, with some more recent updates (newer actions, trigger, DBM, etc.) then it's more than doable, plus you get the added benefits from the tech that came after it.

How many M24s came stock, and issued, with a Timney trigger?

no, they are M24 rebuilds by remington, same rifle I carried most of my life in the Army, but rebuilt. I am retiring soon and was thinking of grabbing one before I retire.

Buy whatever makes you happy. The program offers a lot of kit for the money. Unfortunately, they will not sell an original unmolested rifle just struck from the books. To some degree it is close to the real thing. This can be debated without any end to the discussion. In addition, some folks are just po'd they cannot qualify for the program.

Depending on which optic they come with, that might be cool to have. The upgraded variable Lupy's are common but you don't see too many of the original ones with the fixed power and the turrets with caps. The trigger might be nice to get ahold of but I think it may be the same as the 40x, someone here knows I'm sure. For some reason though this doesn't have that sense of nostalgia to me that the USMC stock resell program had, but to each his own. Those were like 100 bucks or something when they first came out and they were pretty cool with the smear camo and the added serial numbers and you knew a USMC armorer had worked on that sucker. Either way you go is probably not a bad decision but $3500 is not chump change.

Why yes I do, I have studied the history and development of the M24 and I do own one and love it, gets better every trip to the range.

Most people think they are over priced Remington production rifles, fact is they are built one by one in the Custom shop.

Remington put a lot of work into the M24 and came out with a great rifle given the requirements of the military contract.

The M24R has a new action, barrel and trigger for liabiliy concerns and the originals are being used for the 2010s.

I would buy one in an instant if I did not have it already, great price for the system that retails for 8500+.

that is the reply I wanted, thanks

M3A is what I was told by the remington guy
