I shot my new M4-1000 today on my 16" AR and I was a little dissapointed.

I'm used to shooting a suppressed .308 bolt gun, which I know will be quieter simply based on how the gun functions.

Anyway, my thought is if I replace the buffer spring with something heavier, will it slow the action down enough to prevent so much gas escaping from the action, thus making the whole system quieter?

    Just wondering.

    Thanks, 41

Best thing would be the adjustable gas block. Also if you should do this then you will have to rack a round in the chamber everytime you shoot. Pretty much it would be like shooting EBR subsonic ammo but you would be doing it with normal rounds. The other thing that could happen while shooting normal rounds is a failure to feed because of the slowed action. Heres an example of mine, its a RRA entry tact with a gemtech m4-02. You can really tell the difference when I shoot and when the other 2 shoot. http://www.facebook.com/#!/video/video.php?v=102973846388682 anyways hope this help.

My gun ran fine through two mags. I didn't have the ammo for more, just ran out to see what the can sounded like. What is the adjustable gas block going to do if my rifle already runs with and without the can?

I've got an SBR lower waiting for an upper. I've been planning on getting a Noveske Switchblock 10.5" but now I'm not sure it will make much of a difference.

I've got several thousand rounds through my .308 can but pretty new to suppressed AR's (46 rounds new to be exact,) so pardon the newb questions.

As your rifle is now, it's being over worked. The adjustable gas block will let you tune the gas system perfect with the ammo you use. Which will help with cutting down the extra chamber noise.

The ejection port noise is substantial on an AR15 and will make even the quietest silencer seem fairly loud if you're shooting without ear protection (which you shouldn't be anyway - there is no such thing as hearing-safe supersonic suppressed fire).

The M4-1k is a decent can, though. Not the greatest, but a fine can nonetheless. I like mine.
