m40A1 bottom metal? build guide not answer ?

I have a McMillan htg inletted for 70 btm. My question is could I get a model 70 short action btm that would drop in vs Modding long action 70? This is not a spec build. I know about build guide but can't afford spec but close too with Schneider barrel will work for me. Thanks

Pre-64 bottom metal. Have to cut it down, they were all using the same metal I believe.

You can build the M40A1 bottom metal from either the long action or short action two-piece winchester bottom metal. Just less to cut down on the short action. Both have to be modified as the Remington guard screw spaceing in different. Also the front of the side plate on the trigger and the bolt stop release button on your remington trigger must be modified a bit to fit.
