It's a great all around cartridge. You can fire surplus or combloc stuff all day or switch to modern manufactured brass cased ammunition and it will perform well on medium sized game. This round gets a bad rap from folks who utilize it in weapons designed for minute of man feats and with ammunition that matches that mission set. I've had spectacular luck in my AR-15 chambered in 7.62x39 and bolt gun should do just as well if not better. Savage arms also has a bolt gun in this round as well in you're interested in that maker/platform.

i have one of the older ones when ruger did a special run for davidsons.shoots about 1.5 moa out too 200yds with wolf 122gr hp.really enjoy the rifle, but it use to be even more fun when wolf was $80 per 1000.
