I got my hands on a Mauser M98 chambered in 3006, be rifle looks almost unfired.
I took it to the range, and i couldn't stop laughing shooting this rifle compared to my own Rem 700 SPS Tact in .308 and my friends 700.
They are both suppressed, shooting light loads and is very controllable.
The mauser felt like hitting nails with a 12 pound sledehammer compared to the controlled 700.

I a kind of feel bad cutting up the mauser from 1936 to build a more useable rifle.

I first thought about building it into a hunting rifle as a present for my younger brother, but considering the weight, it will be better to build it into a long range target gun.

Does anyone know of a good stock like the mcmillan a5 that will fit the M98?
Which caliber should i choose? .308/6,5x55/.3006
Does anyone have any good photos of long range mauser builds?

I have been looking around, but its not easy to find any good modern stocks...

Re: M98 build

BELL AND CARLSON MAKES A VARMINT STOCK FOR A MAUSER FR AROUND 255... ITS MORE LIKE AN A-3 STYLE.... FOR A TARGET RIFLE I WOULD GO WITH THE 308... OVER THE 6.5 AND 06...

Re: M98 build

McMillan will make an A-5 for a 98 Mauser.
If your barrel is bigger than a #5 contour dont
use the B&C, I'm building one now with the B&C
and a #7 contour barrel and the forend gets to
thin.Wish I would have got the McMillan.
