Suppressors M9A1 for US Army?

Re: M9A1 for US Army?

I know the Army just ordered another 400,000 pistols, but I couldn't see if they were the M9's or the M9A1's. Doesn't make sense to stick with the old version when the newer one is out, but then again it's the Army so therefore it makes PERFECT sense haha

Re: M9A1 for US Army?

While they probably should, it ultimately won't make even 0.000001% difference to the success or failure of the Army's mission.

Re: M9A1 for US Army?

Half the damn Army can't shoot for shit with a pistol anyways!
It's almost a lost art. I remember at a qual range and the sigo aka signal officer for the battalion didn't lock down the slide after he had been playing with it earlier. When he locked and loaded he launched the slide off the pistol which at first got some WTF looks and then made him the butt of a lot of jokes for about two years which was when he left.

I think what the Army could do is invest in more pistol training since hardly anybody shoots pistols anymore as the focus is primarely rifles leaving soldiers weak on their secondary weapons.

Re: M9A1 for US Army?

I cannot see the rank and file soldier who is issued an M9 really getting any signifant benefit of the A1 variant, since it is unlikely they will have a laser or flashlight mounted on it. That being said, it may indeed be a case where the Army would replace worn out pistols with the newest version until they are all replaced in twenty years and it would be time for a new pistol model. I agree with Stefan73, most soldiers cannot shoot a pistol worth a crap. I have been instructing in both the USMC and US Army for over twenty years and am constantly amazed at how poorly some people shoot. With the limited time I have to dedicate to each soldier, I am usually unable to make much of a difference in their shooting skills.

Re: M9A1 for US Army?

Well if we spent half as much time on the range than we do in classrooms learning about EEO, EO, being PC, and all this other crap, we could shoot more and maybe become decent at it. Ugh the stupidity sometimes

Re: M9A1 for US Army?

Handgun skills are basically useless for the vast majority of Soldiers. They'd be better off learning how to shoot at medium distances and how to fight up close than learning how to use a pistol.

If you're a Soldier and you're down to your pistol, God help you, because you're probably already dead.

Re: M9A1 for US Army?

Screw the M9's. junk. what's worse are the mags.... if your currently deployed and your reading this... acquire a couple extra mags and take the springs out of them... break down your "serviceable" mags and intertwine the springs and reassembly. Cuts down on your capacity but your secondary won't fail due to shit ass mags... worked for me.

Re: M9A1 for US Army?

Already fielding the M9A1 in the Big Army (new purchases). I have seen a few in Iraq.
Now, if I can trade my rebuilt piece of shit M9 for one. Hell, I'll take one that has only shot 10,000 rounds at OBC over my issue junk.

The M9 is junk, mags are junk. So, why did the Army get them? Can we say Air Bases in Italy.

Ever compare an Italian made 92F to a Maryland made one? Italians do it right.

Re: M9A1 for US Army?

The ones we have been getting in the past year are all M9's (NIB). Since we are forced to go with it, I would hope the current contract is amended to just make the A1's.

I agree with half of that. The purpose of a pistol is to fight your way back to the rifle.

The Norwegians got themselves into a bear of a fight a few weeks ago that reportedly saw one TB get zapped at 10m with a Glock after the soldier transitioned from his empty 416. I wouldn't go with useless...

Sadly, being in the logistics world, I doubt that the contract has been amended. I even get to be certified as a Contracting Officer Representative next week... (remind me to bring my M9 so I can shoot myself with it)

That being said, there are NSNs for Laser grips that can be put on ANY issue M9. I still recommend (and have) commercial sale M9 magazines. They are authorized, just as MAGPUL mags are authorized (even though they now do have an NSN)

Re: M9A1 for US Army?

I heard from a couple people I know still in the Army that the M9A1 is seeing limited (VERY limited) distribution in the Army. Of course, they're all authorized to carry the M11, so obviously they all declined to actually use or carry the M9A1. No clue if there are plans for larger supply saturation/distribution.
Now that I think of it, I think these pistols were obtained by the unit individually, and not through the Army supply chain.
