Magazines not fitting in my bottom metal?

Heyo fellas.

I have some regular ol' accurate mags (single stack .308) and they are NOT going into my Badger M5 bottom metal. It seems the rear tab needs some filing? Is this normal? Just wanted to make sure before I started modifying brand new mags. Is it possible that the bottom metal is out of spec? Or is it the magazines? (2 of them have the same issue, it gets too tight JUST before the mag catch latches, and no matter how hard I press, it will not go further)

Take a picture into the back of the action, bolt removed, with a dummy round in the magazine, and the magazine seated as much as possible (ideally latched). You should see something close to a tangency between the top of the primer and the bottom of the chamber, and you should be able to get some paper between the magazine and the action metal on both sides of it.

My assumption is the magazine catch needs to be filed down a bit and you’ll be g2g.

Note that there is not an agreed-to spec for AICS magazines or R700-“compatible” widgets and dinguses. You should generally plan on a bit of fiddling to get something to work. Magazines and triggers tend to be the worst.

Shucks, I only have a stock, bottom metal, and magazines haha. But I'll see if the catch is what needs filing. From what I can tell, it seems like the tab thingy on the back of the magazine is to blame, as it doesn't want to fit into the magwell box at all.

That does sound like as described above by ShtrRdy, however if other mags are working then it's possible the tab on the new mags are out of place (too low on the mag body).

It sounds crazy but the AI mags are all different sizes, I mean the actual AI brand ones. The 10rd are different than the 5rd for the ones we have. We have one AI mag that doesn't even start to go into a competitor chassis but another one fits fine.

Good luck!

Thanks for the AI mag info. I didn't realize there was a large-ish difference between them.
