Rifle is kind of a cross over gun, will be bult so it is long range capable but also for closer game if it presents.

What magnification would you prefer a 3-12 or 4-16 ? .....was kind of leaning toward 4-16 but quite often you get shots at game close in and feild of view is nice, and usually the higher end scopes have really nice glass/view performance in the 3-12 range.

Im still leaning toward the 4-16....3.5-15 mag range but interested to hear what others would put on a "all round" .300 win mag.

pc3,

Right now I am trying to decided between a 3 1/2-18X44 and a 5-25X52. The 5-25X has about 22 feet field of view which I know from experience is more than adiquate.

I guess you can figure I would go with the higher of the two you are considering.

OMN,

I was originally considering a 3.8-22x44 USO for this rifle.....although it is a big scope really in the scheme of things it its only "slightly heavier" and a bit longer (length does not matter gun will have a 26" barrel any way)than competitors 4-16's and I had heard good things about the feild of view on the 3.8-22 USO. I am assuming your putting a 5-25 PM11 on nopw thats a big scope !!

Get the S&B 5-25 PMII for a 300WM. You can dial down to 5x and shoot close but you have the higher power for longer range. We shot at 11 yards this past weekend in AZ at the match there. My S&B 5-25x worked flawlessly. The 5-25x PMII is 16.1" long compared to the USO 3.8-22, which is 18", and The 5-25 PMII is 2.4lbs compared to the USO 2.5lbs.

If you didn't want to go that route then definitely 4-16x.
