Magnum Mauser Takedown

This is a double square bridge, solid left wall, takedown Magnum Mauser in .416 Rigby. It has removable covers over the bridges and a QD scope. Made by Jerry Fisher.

I can be enamored with this gun as long as I can avoid thinking about the recoil.

I'd love to see it assembled with the scope.

Odd thing about the large caliber rifles and recoil. Most of them are not painful to shoot. Due to lower velocity you get a lower velocity recoil impulse. The 'big push."
When you pick it up in the morning and put the cartridges in a .416 or .470 Rigby they seem huge. The rifles seem very heavy. Later in the day you are shooting an elephant 20 feet away with others you could touch with your hand. The rifle feels like a feather and the thought of "there is no way this will work..." running through your mind. The recoil is never felt, the blast is never heard.

I once helped a friend shoot his 458 Lott loads over a chrono, as he prepared for an elephant hunt. I felt and heard many things that afternoon.

The adrenaline of a charging giant might have been welcome at that point.

That is some fantastic looking wood!

Thanks! It's the hardest wood I have ever seen in a stock. It is New Zealand thinshell walnut.
