I'm having serious break in issues with a recently built AR-10T, barrel was cut down to 21''. Sometimes doesn't extract case completely, hardly ever picks up next round, and bolt never locks back after last round. I have opened the gas port up to .081 and swithed the heavy AR-10 buffer for a lighter one. Now it functions correctly most of the time but functions and groups best with M118LR. Well, I'm running out of this ammo and need to duplicate it or at least come close. I have plenty of 175gr matchkings, plenty brass, both IMR 4895 nad varget. But I'm out of regular large rifle primers. Went to store today to buy and the guy looked at me like I must have been in prison for the last 9 months. I do however have plenty of magnum lrg rifle primers, can I use them and just reduce the charge slightly?

Re: magnum primers for a Lg Rfle load?

Ran into the same thing working up loads for my twins .270 Wins. Had a "few" magnum primers from my 300WM, loaded them. worked up low to high... voila: 3/4" groups! GTG for hunting season!
