Magnum primers loading question

Re: Magnum primers loading question

I can't believe I'm posting, I've never been around .308.
From experience, if magnums are all you have, I'd look at a ball powder. A guy that got me into long range shooting had a rule of, less than 70 grains of powder, standard primer, more magnum. It kind of stands to reason, but not to die by.

Here's Hodgdon's load page, W748, Benchmark, not sure about IMR 8208 XBR

Re: Magnum primers loading question

I've used them in my 243 for cold weather loads with imr 7828 and 95g noslers. I started with normal start load and worked up,didn't get pressure sings till 1% from max listed load. to be safe just go with you normal powder and start 12% below max load instead of the normal 10%

Re: Magnum primers loading question

ok.. Thanks guys to be honest I knew all I had was mag primers and knew that using them was ok but I forgot about it when I went to load them and started at min and worked up in .5gr increments till I got 1 grain shy of max. It sounds as if maybe I lucked out and i'll be ok.

Obviously I'll shoot the lighter ones first and work up to the hotter loads and look for pressure signs. I kinda just flipped out when I realized what I done and wanted to ask.

I appreciate the help fellas.

I'll be back to let everyone know what a 165gr gameking with CFE 223 does.....hopefully I'll have good news
