Is there any negative effects of shooting a 7mmSTW through a can rated for a .308? I am guessing it won't be as quiet as a 308 but will the extra muzzle blast damage the can?

You might want to check if the can is rated for magnums or not. It's not just as simple as shooting a smaller bullet through a x size hole.

if the can says it is rated for a 300WM then it should be okay for my STW right?

It should but I'd call the manufacter first. The two rounds operate at roughly the same pressure but the STW has a bit more case capacity.

I would deffinately call the manufacturer , both cartridges might have the same pressure , but the larger might hold that pressure for a longer period of time. I saw a cheaper can buldge from some zipperhead shooting 22mag through a 22 rimfire can , it seemed funny to me , but he seemed upset

I don't have a can yet. I am looking at getting one and would like to be able to use it on both. I am not worried about super quiet from the STW just want it to tame the beast. I do however want hollywood quiet from the 308 shooting sub sonic rounds.
I know a shark will handle it but I just didn't want to have to spend that much. If it won't work on the STW then I won't use the can on it. I was just hoping it would work on both.

I have an AWC thundertrap and an SWR omega, both for .308, they both are about the same in noise reduction (as far as I can tell when I shoot them) both are pretty robust sealed units, they seem to enhance accuracy a little bit, and with subsonic rounds I think the omega is a little quieter.<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: The new guy</div><div class="ubbcode-body">What can do you have? </div></div>
