I'm considering Magpul mbus sites for an 308 AR build I'm doing. I've been doing some light reading and have heard guys complain about poi walking on higher recoil rifles. Wondered what anyone here had to say about them? Nothing fancy on the build standard 20" with phantom brake/hider waiting on paperwork for can. ACOG is out of price range for now. So I'm looking to try these out.

Re: Magpul Flip Up Sight?

Walking? Uhm... no. The front has a pin that you put in place once you set your elevation so it can't rotate at all. I suppose if you didn't put this in it's possible but I still don't see it happening. The rear is adjusted left to right for windage so I don't see gravity being a real concern here with recoil but in case it were the designers put detents in the adjustment knob that positively 'click' so I don't see that turning either. I suspect whoever told you they 'walk' either didn't install them properly or doesn't know what they're talking about.

Well that's what I thought so I'm going to go and pick up a set today and give them a try. I was suprised he was bad mothing them as I hadn't heard any negative talk. But I thought I would check here first.

Re: Magpul Flip Up Sight?

Have a set and they are not bad for their purpose back up sights. They are a little bulky, and when the gen 2 come out. Which are supposed to be thinner in all aspects I definitely would not hesitate to pickup another set. Hope this helps.

I don't own any Magpul BUISes' so I can't advise you about any "walking". Magpul makes great products and their Customer Service is awesome. However, for BUIS I prefer Troys. LWRC and Noveske like them too. While more pricey than Magpul BUISes', the Troys seem more solid. Whether the price differential is worth it is up to you.

However, I've seen brand new Troy BUIS take-off sets here for $200.00 shipped per set - occasionally for less. The front BUIS with "HK style" protective ears is more common than the standard "AR style" ears. I actually bought a an LWRC ARM-R rail, then bought front & rear Troys to mount on my TacSol AR22 M4 build.

Definitely look at the ACOG 3.5Xs' if and when you have the means - the 3.5Xs' have the best eye relief of the ACOGs', which makes head position less critical. This is key, and on collapsable stocks you can extend the stock to stretch-out or shorten it to suit the situation / task. Mounted over the BUISes' you have great primary and secondary sighting systems.

Re: Magpul Flip Up Sight?

They are not as costly as many others. How often do you intend to use them anyway. They are really for that incase of emergency moment. I have read not to mount them directly on the gas block because extreme high heat can jack them up. I would buy some myself.

Re: Magpul Flip Up Sight?

I have them on my Bushmaster M4A3 setup. They work just fine for what I need. If my EOTech ever fails I just pop up the rear BUIS and I'm back in business. I don't think spending $200 on something like a BUIS for a home defense situation is really worth the money. Instead, get the magpuls and use the money you save to buy ammo!

Re: Magpul Flip Up Sight?

Good sights, but I'd wait for the Gen2 to come out. The Gen1 are bulky and the front MBUS are annoying to adjust. The Gen2 fixes most of the complaints. Just use some blue loctite to tighten the bolts and don't go crazy tightening them because they will break.

Re: Magpul Flip Up Sight?

I had them on one of my AR's with an Adams Piston kit on it. Don't put the front one on the Gas-Block (as mentioned earlier). It will melt. Other than that fine for their intended purpose... Back-up.

I've got a troy extended rail so mounting on the gas block is not an option. Like I said before I am just looking for a low cost buis so I can save up for an acog later. For now the rifle is mainly going to be scoped anyways.

I called upMagpul and was told around June. Don't quote me on it.
