Looking to buy my first set of back up sights for recently acquired pof 308. Wondering if the new Gen. 2 magpul where good pick even though they are plastic??? Worried about toughness...should I go Yankee Hill??? Any suggestions from you Vets. Out there??? -Thanks

Re: Magpul flip up sights

YHM are probably the last I'd go with. They're pretty freakin heavy and not all that great of a design.

Since you have a POF, I'm pretty sure that the top rail is a lot higher than normal. In this case, Troy makes a set of low BUIS that would be perfect.

Troy sights are super low profile and a very good design. Most optics will clear them. They deploy easily and stay put. Best BUIS IMO.

Still, MBUS are good and mine haven't had any issues.

Right on, thanks Salmonaxe.. Troy product seems to come up alot in shooting supply catalogs and get good reviews with them. I will give them a second look.

Re: Magpul flip up sights

My experience with MBUS only include the rear sight. And I found it works well for what it is. But it is no precision sighting system. The aperture is to big. If you can find something with an A2 style sight you would be a step ahead.

Re: Magpul flip up sights

I have a set of the new GEN II MBUS Magpul. I too was worried about durability, but these are SOLID... they are lower profile from the previous GEN I model, making them a little lighter, but not any less strong in my opinion.
On my other M4, I do have ARMS Low Profile MBUS, whis is just a totally awesome back up rear iron... I mean that thing is bullet proof. However, at roughly 130.00 just for the back, its pricey. Where you can get the magpul for for 100.00 for the set, as I did on ebay.

Here they are in the down position

I'll try to get a pic of that ARMS that I have....

Here is the front BUIS I have, its the Yankee Hill gas block. I really like this sight / gas block combo a lot!!! very durable and very well made...

Re: Magpul flip up sights

you're welcome.... If you like to see a close up of each. Let me know. If I get a chance tonight, I will... I like them a lot.
I was skeptical at first for the same reasons, but was happy with the purchase...

Re: Magpul flip up sights

Just FYI, I've seen the YHM frontsight gasblock move due to recoil and cause shortstroking.

The single split clamping type, like the Vltor VST or the PRI are far superior.

Re: Magpul flip up sights

I've had a couple of different A.R.M.S. rear sights that had some lateral play in them. Never seemed to affect accuracy but it didn't inspire confidence either. I'm using a Troy now and it is rock solid and low profile.

Thanks for the heads up... Haven't noticed yet, but will keep an eye on this....
