Not really sure is this is really a gunsmithing topic but has anybody taken apart and re-assembled a PRS stock before? I building a rifle and was going to try to paint the stock dark earth but I want it to look as factork as possible.

Re: Magpul PRS

It is a piece of cake. If you are even slightly mechanically inclined you can do whatever you need to take it apart--getting the paint to stick may be a different story

Why don't you trade yours for an FDE one? Or sell yours and buy another.

This is the way to go if you really want an FDE PRS instead of a black one. Sure, you can paint it if you like, but it won't hold up nearly as well as a factory, molded in FDE unit. I have seen some Kryloned and painted with other applications and they all seemed to chip/flake even if prepped for paint.

Hell, I may have one around the shop in FDE if you want to do a trade (I can look when I get home from work later...let me know if you are interested). Even if I don't have one, I am sure you can find a taker on a trade in pretty short order. There is a guy in the WTB ads looking for a black PRS now if you want to sell and buy a FDE unit.

Re: Magpul PRS

I was looking on the Magpul site and didn't see a FDE stock, it's for an AR-10 (I probably should have specified). I they in fact do offer a FDE AR-10 stock I would definately go with that. I may be missing something, do they make a FDE PRS?

This is going to be my first .308 build so I'm still trying to figure out what stocks are available. My reciever wont be in for a couple weeks so I have some time to figure it out. Any sugestions from you guys on a similar stock are welcome.

Re: Magpul PRS

Gotcha, I'm just confused on my colors that's all. Nice rifle by the way. The color I was looking for was a darker brown, not sure of the correct nomenclature though. I know LMT make's a dark brown SOPMOD stock in the color I was after. The Barrett on the home page of SN (I think it's a 98B) is the color I was looking at that I really dig.
