This is something I've wanted to tackle but unsure how to the perfect match between the barrel and thread protector ? Do used a piece of barrel scrap or start out with something pre made ? Would you use a tap for the threads to make things quicker than using a thread insert ?
Thanks

There are several places that sell blanks. Essentially oversized in all exterior dimensions, with internal threads. For the price, seems like not a bad way to go. The blending isn't any different than blending a muzzle brake.

You can buy them for pretty cheap and contour them in. If you wanted to make one you could measure your existing threads on your barrel with a set of wires and make a plug with the exact dimensions. Then when you turn and thread your protector you'll have a gauge to see when you are there.

Thanks for the replies I figured there must be quicker way. Having to drill and tap each blank then screw on the barrel and finish adds some time overall .
The thread I'm working with is 11/16-24 so I may need to special order something.
Thanks again
