Alright I have asked on another forum and have not really got an answer so here we go. I want to make a wildcat round. The idea is to neck down a 7.62x39 case to except a.224 bullet. This is for a AR15 build. Using a 77 gr SMK bullet I hope to get 3,000 fps out of a 1:7 20" barrel. I have never done a wildcat but do reload quit a bit. So.

How can I figure the speed of the bullet before it's built?

Where would I get a die to neckdown the case?

I should be able to buy a 22 cal barrel and have a chamber made for it to fit this wildcat at a local gunsmith right? It would be like any other AR barrel to make?

Were do I find safe load data?

What the hell would you call a round like this.... " ARAK"

Re: Making a wildcat

have a look at a 22PPC that is what you are looking at based of the 220 russian case that is based of the 7.62X30 and improved or you could just fire the 220 russian it would work. the other thing is you could neck a 6.5 grendall down and will have the biggest case capacity based of that case in 22 cal.

Personaly iw ould make it in 6mm but whatever floats your boat.

Re: Making a wildcat

I've shot benchrest with both the 22 and 6mm PPC rounds. The PPC rounds are based on the 200 Russian brass. Basically a necked down 7.62 X 39 case.

There is quiet literally tons of load data out there for the PPC family of cartridges.

Wild Bill has the right idea. Good luck.
